Wheel locks
#1

Anyone think wheel locks are of any value anymore? I have to remove the locks on my wheels which will destroy them (don't ask why). Mechanic told me not to waste $ buying new ones since thieves can get the tools to remove them at any auto parts place and locks won't slow them down.  Thoughts on if I should buy new ones?

I have a set of stock ones if you are interested. I don't run them, but I have been known to flirt with disaster.

So you run unprotected too? Are these the key type locks?

Wheel Locks only keep honest people honest.  Rolleyes Insurance will pay for new wheels except the deductible rules.

So my main mechanic, 100 miles away, forgot to put the key back in my car after service in March and I'm having the brakes bled locally today, so the brake service may be more expensive than I planned. Also installing my new M030 bars. Big drive next weekend event (Porsches2Prescott) so want to have new brake fluid and the bars before then.So may have to ruin locks forcing them off......

Its not like our wheels fit much of anything anymore. I don't use mine anymore and yes I did have to trash a set of locks once.

So I'm embarrassed to admit the wheel "unlocker" turned up, stuffed in the back of the ashtray where I found it the third time I checked, and where my mechanic said they put it. I use the ashtray as a place to hold my cell phone (an old-fashioned flip phone, but it's almost the same vintage as the car :-)) and didn't find it earlier. So the wheels came off, the brake fluid changed and the M030 bars installed. And I can lock on my worthless 17" cup wheels! At least until a thief rips them off :-( Wolf, wolf he cried!

they're practically a nuisance, and IMO no one is going to bother stealing only your wheels they'll most likely take the whole car

As long as the Accord was an auto. If they want a joyride, steal the 968, if they want to take it to a chop shop and part it out, the Accord is the car to steal.

True about the wheels, and the tires as well. Staggered tires means harder to sell.

But, in my world, criminals have never been accused of displaying anything resembling genius. Sometimes it's just shiny and they want it.

I can say with some certainty that here in the UK the wheels would be stolen, 17" cup 1's going for close to $3000 a set on ebay

What if they don't want to steal them but rather either unloosen the nuts or just take them off? I can assure you that you would rather them steal the wheels!
