Anyone have comment on the ability to fit 16" 944 Turbo wheels on a stock (non-M030) 968, front offset ET60 and rear ET65?
Also, a general question: do lower numbered offsets result in the wheel sticking out farther, and higher numbers mounting deeper in the wheel well?

Thanks for the info. IIRC they're off an 88 or 89 turbo. 7" and 9".

No problem - you can call it as you see it: "goofy". I have thick skin. Based on these offsets, I tend to agree, which is why I am passing on these.
The long story is that I am entering some DE events this year (see my "Helmet Advice" thread under the Racing section) and I want to return to the stock 16" tire sizes. I have 17" cup 1's on now. I want to do this as cheaply as possible. Since I am considering refinishing the original 16" wheels and putting them away for safekeeping, I am looking at used 944 wheels so I wouldn't mark up the re-finish job on the originals. Having decent used tires already mounted on the 944 rims was an attraction as well, but this set is not going to work for me. Also looking at design 90's, which have offsets closer to the 968's. Eventually, I may just have to forego re-finishing for now and use my stock 16" originals.
So why run 16" at the DE events? Because I want to run as close to stock as possible while I am learning better driving techniques, and then begin some performance mods after my driving skills have improved. And because I want to.

Just to be clear - I had the same thought as you on the "goofy" offsets, so I did not take your opinion as crass in any way. Besides, what value would this site be to less experienced guys like me, if you more experienced (older?) guys did not express your honest opinions?
My car came with stock 16"'s. The 17"'s I have mounted now are in good shape with new rubber, so I am wanting to spare the wear and tear on this set. I can change to the 16" set just for DE, and back to 17" when I get home.
Cost is also a consideration. I can tear up decent sets of used 16" tires on the track and feel better about it - they are cheaper and easier to find than the 17" counterparts.
