What's this plug?
#1

Cleaning up around the engine compartment I saw this plug and grabbed it to make sure it was firmly connected. The plastic cover around it disintegrated at my finger tips. I did my best Macgyver repair with some electrical tape. Seems fine. No lights. What is this plug for? It's located on the top fo the block under the intake runners. -Tom

Pretty sure the Hall sensor goes in the back of the distributor housing...but extra points for trying <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Maybe it's a "block sensor", and that's why it's in the block. It's the sensor that, when the engine falls out of the car, it makes the "Check Engine" light come on.

Oil temp sensor that actually controls the variocam I believe 964.624.110.00.

Between cylinder 2 and 3 under intake manifold.

Why would oil temp have anything to do with the Variocam?

I was thinking it. You asked it.

I was thinking that too. I'm also not aware of any 964 part numbers on our 968s, but I suppose it could be a superseded number from the one I gave.

There was talk a while ago on the RL forums about this mystery plug and sensor. Auto Atlanta lists this unit on their very detailed 968 parts diagram (#47 head diagram) and it appears this is a dealer only item.
