What's the best rock band?
#61

What's with listing all these bands from last century? The title of the thread is "What's the best rock band" not "What was the best rock band".

Eric, simmer down now, this thread is way off track so roll with it! It's all opinion anyway. But it sure has elicited some interesting comments.

Not a band, but what about the Ultimate Rock God, Justin Bieber? He's from this century, even (he looks like he was born in it...).

By the way, am I the only one who get and uncontrollable urge to scratch my forehead whenever I see a picture of him?

aren't we limiting this to people originally from THIS planet?

I guess part of the problem with trying to include more current bands is that it takes a certain amount of time for a band to establish their mark, and prove they're not just one-hit, or one-CD wonders. Also, the demographic of this site naturally favors bands (and everything else, for that matter) that are from the late 20th century.

I guess that leaves out Parliament Funkadelic and the Sun Ra Arkestra!

For a more current band I would have to say the Foo Fighters based on my concert experiences and overall talent. They put on an amazing show and have a huge number of hits.

Yeah, I love the Foo Fighters. Along with Pearljam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, they're definitely my favorite contemporary band.

i was talking to the ff drummer about this time last year, and we almost got them booked at a show i am producing. just couldn't quite make the deal work. i was pretty bummed. i've worked with the peppers before though and we had chad with his new band 2 years ago. he's always a blast to work with.

Funny, those are probably my least favorite bands No disrespect meant, it's just funny how everyone's tastes are different. I don't dislike every one of their songs, it's more of a generalized thing. In fact there's no band that I like all of their songs, even my favorite bands have clunkers, in my opinion.

Ok, so on a adjacent track, what's the best band show / live performance you've seen ? ( the band does not necessarily have to be your absolute favorite, but one which put on a show that blew you away.. )

Most memorable bands in that category, for me :

Genesis ( during Peter Gabriel's era )

Queen ( needless to say' Freddie Mercury's performance in particular )

As much as I hate to admit it, for pure performance, the Michael Jackson Thriller concert at JFK stadium in Philadelphia in 1983 was the most amazing show I ever saw...
