Yeah, our rules are weird.

 

We have successfully protected our members from SPAM and unwanted contact by maintaining high walls around our security. As a completely free resource, we don't think that introducing yourself to this tight knit community is so onerous that new members can't jump through the hoops. Once you have posted 5 times, you have unlimited access to all of the site's features, without ever having to participate/contribute anything more.
