Water in driver's footwell
#1

Water that runs into the forward drivers side sunroof drain hole is ending up in the drivers side footwell. I observe from the passenger side that this water is supposed to drain out through the rear drain tube.

Is there any way to get at the area to see what is going on, or do I have to disassemble the entire car first?

EDIT: I pulled off the lining on the windshield frame, and found that the water is making it down the drain tube. Therefore, it must not be attached correctly at the bottom end. Please tell me I don't have to pull off the dash to get to it...

After digging into the dash, I discovered the source of my troubles. The drain tube is supposed to terminate into a small pipe that dumps the water on the other side of the firewall. It was not connected.

Here is where the tube comes down the pillar, the pipe is just below the bottom corner of the windshield.

The pipe that goes through the firewall can be seen from above:

Here it is a little more clearly from below looking past the vent:

But here is the weird part. When I looked in the engine bay where the pipe comes out, it was plugged with a rubber stopper. It appeared that the rubber stopper had been there since the car left the factory, because it was painted along with the pipe, and I’m pretty sure my engine bay has not ever been re-painted. Anybody else have a plug in theirs?

I've been dealing with rain water problems for some time - but, as my car is a cabriolet, the issues are different. Except, though, I'm wondering where the water is supposed to go once it leaves the tube you're showing as having been plugged. There's a drain outlet underneath the fuse box, and I think I have a problem there, causing water into the driver's footwell. Similar problem (but much - MUCH - worse) on the passenger side. After the soaking rain yesterday, I've decided that I must find a weekend that I can use to attempting the fixes. Good luck - hopefully, for you, one fix won't lead to another problem.

Nice hunt and resolution! Man, I love it when we wrench our own cars. Enjoy a favorite beverage, you deserve it!

GuardsRedCoupe,

I just looked at my 1992 coupe and it does not have a cap on the end of that drain tube.
