"View New Posts" isn't working
#1

OK, this used to be a very rare problem, and as such only a minor annoyance, but it's become much more frequent. Simply put, the "View New Posts" button isn't working most of the time. When I'm away long enough for a good number of new posts to have accumulated, log in (I always log ouot when I leave the site), and press the "View New Posts button, I get the message that says there have been no new posts since my last login. But when I scroll through the threads, I find many recent posts, so the error message is incorrect. Are many people having this problem (though I suppose if many are, it may be very difficult to see this post ). Thanks.

New data point - after posting this thread, I hit the "View New Posts" button, and the thread appeared. Hmmm...

No issues here to report. Seems to be working OK for me...

believe it or not, it doesn't pick up everything - they swear it does, but i've found many times that there were posts that slip by - not sure exactly how that happens - if i had to guess, i'd say it grabs about 80% of the new posts

i'm working on figuring out something that makes it easier to stay on top of things - some "tweaking" of the front page and such - we'll see

lol - nope - that would be the button to my profile picture - kidding - yes, it is probably the most used - unfortunately it is not 100% effective - that's why cruising around the site is so cool - you find a ton of stuff you didn't know was there - happens to me all the time

While we are on the subject...

This NEVER works for me: Get active topics for: THIS WEEK

Plus, who and what determines that FLOOD CONTROL needs to be implemented? I get that message, as I am going thru the new posts about 3-5 times a session. I can sometimes get it when I see that I am the only one on the site.

not sure what problem you are having with the week thing - works for me

the flood control is a time thing, not a traffic thing - there is a setting for a certain number of seconds - this is to prevent the server from having a hissy fit

brian - that's just plain weird - i have no clue what that is about - have you tried it from another computer, or with a different browser?

dan - i think that is in your profile page

It worked today. Could be a problem on my end, too. I'll try different computers and different networks and see if there are any correlations.

if you hit it and there have been no new posts since the last time you logged on, then it will do that - bugs me because if i want to see the new posts for the last week, and there are no new posts since i last logged on, i have to either wait for a new post, or make one

Here's what it says:

Board Message
Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.

The error returned was:
Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show.

I don't have screen capture software on my home computer, but hopefully the copy and paste of the error message shown above is descriptive enough. It's given me the error both yesterday and today, plenty of time for at least a dozen new posts. I wonder what percentage of forum users are having this problem.

could just be a cookie thing - the site depends on them and it looks to see what was last done - if you log out and back in, it's like starting over - also, there is a time limit to the session, so it automatically resets - this then means that there could be gaps if all you do is hit "view new posts"

however, it should not mess up if you select a different time frame

i'll look into that with tech support and see what they say
