Fuel filler hose repair
#1

Filled up the tank today and had a real strong fuel odor. did the human sniff test to check up front and out back for fuel leak. Everything dry except around fuel pump, I could see fresh gas leaking. Turns out it was from above and running down.

Luckily the carpet is out, and I was easily able to remove the padding, and then the 5 phillips screws and 2 8mm nuts and pull the metal cover off of the fule inlet hoses.

Found the leak at filler neck adaptor hose. it was falling apart(see arrows pic). Other hoses in pic have to do with fume recylcing and lead to vapor cannistor in pillar(coupe) and fuel tank.

I put some black poly sealant on it for now. Orderd upper and lower hoses and cap O ring from Porsche dealer nearby. Parts are in Atlanta warehouse apparently and should be here in a few days. kinda pricey for some rubber (as usual)

so if you have fuel smell after filling tank and driving, consider a rotted filler neck hose.

Did the part fell apart by removing the carpet? Otherwise this is the first time I hear about it.

Because the high fuelprices I do not regular fill my tank to the top. Si It will take a while before I discover it.

Rotted since I got it. Could smell fuel on my first ever fill up. Normally, there is a steel cover over the hoses in the picture. Smell just got worse....already saw my friend's 944 post fire, I don't want the same.....

As for filling the tank, I usually top off. costs the same in the long run.....just fewer stops...

I thought I was suffering the same problem. I pulled it all apart and the filler tube, hose and top flange all look great. I think I'm back to square-1.

It looks like if any gas spills at all, that the gas can very easily leak down the inside of the filler tube. I'm also wondering where the carbon canister is. Is it the tiny little thing on the right hand side? I'll posts pics tomorrow when my son gets off the good computer.

Question for the group. Should I be putting any kind of sealant between the rubber and plastic bits? If so what?

I'm concerned with the connection at the bottom of the flexible hose and gas tank. Since the hose does not fit into the tank, the seal on the outside of the plastic flange is definitely tested everytime you fill-up.

BTW, nice write up on the procedure.
