Cruise Control
#1

Hi Guys

I know I'm fairly quiet on here but this seems like a question some of you chaps may be better equiped to answer as Cruise Control is fairly uncommon over the pond.

My Cruise control as started to misbehave. Sometimes it won't work at all... completely dead at the stalk. Then it'll have a go at speeding you up instead of holding at the speed set, and sometimes you set a speed and after a while it just cancels itself. Other times it works exactly as it should, but the 'playing around' seems to be getting more frequent.

This is typical at whatever gear you're in and speed you set.

Are there any easy fixes I should be looking at before I look for an electrical engineer.

Cheers!

Quite some time ago, I had cruise control problems such as you describe, and I replaced the "brain" - the box under the dash on the driver's side (I think - I actually had the work done by my OPC) with a used unit purchased from eBay. Problem immediately went away. There's apparently some known problems with cold solder joints, and some have said the joints can be fixed. However, when I opened the box, the connections were too close together for me to fool around with a soldering iron. I've also purchased another spare box for when the current one fails.

You probably need to open up your cruise control servo and clean the connections. Here's more info: Clark's Garage on Cruise Control

Dean,

Have you sprayed contact cleaner into the steering column end of the stalk, it may just be bad conections at that end.
