Use of Car Bra
#1

I`m about to do a trip of about 2200miles (Brisbane- Hobart return) in the 968 using an inland highway noted for ongoing repairs, heavy transport and stones, rocks and stones. ( Did I mention kangaroos?)

I have been offerred the use of a traditional car bra (made for the 968 by or for the North American Porsche Club?) that looks the goods.

However I have received two sets of advice from my "expert" mates on it`s use.

1. Best thing since cut bread.
2. On long hauls ie driving all day they work loose, get dust in around the edge and act like abrasive paper on the paintwork in that area.

Any experience or advice on their use would be appreciated.

i've been using mine for years - dust can be a problem - a really good coat of wax takes car of most of it, but on extended trips, i tend to run blue masking tape along the edges and at the rub points underneath the bra to resolve that

also, NEVER let the bra sit there when wet - it will fog your paint

high speeds are also obviously more an issue than low ones

Thanks Flash.

High speed will be an issue on this trip.

Do you mask the bra to the car or mask the car itself or ?? I have also notice a lot of dust collects just under the lip on the hood/fenders.

i mask the car

by the way, i run at 100+ and while the cover stretches, the masking tape keeps the bra from rubbing on the paint, and the bra saves the front end from chips

Thanks for the tape tip, flash. I've also found that a good coat of wax keeps the bra from scratching, as long as the car stays fairly clean.

I've been considering film for the front since I got it repainted a year or so ago, but have balked at the price (there's always something more necessary or fun to be done) and don't really like the film lines on the fenders or hood. The other day, though, the guy who painted the front was giving a quote for a door ding removal, and he suggested filming just the front bumper. I kind of like the idea: less cost, no lines. I would have to touch-up chips on the fenders or hood, but the bumper film would eliminate the majority of them. Has anyone tried filming just the bumper?
