Newbie on the way home with new toy.
#1

Just purchased a wonderful black 93 968 in Memphis on Friday. On my way home to Boise, and have stopped in Laramie. Having never driven a 968 (owned 2 944s) I took a leap of faith and was certain I would love it. This car is amazing! I have been grinning from ear to ear the whole way home, even through Kansas. Will post pics and updates when I get home. I am so happy to have finally become a 968 owner. This is one of the greatest cars for money around.

Good for you. Welcome aboard and enjoy.

I bet you get better mileage on the highway driving back home than you thought! Torque + 6 speeds = pretty solid highway mileage.

So, I made it home Sunday night. Amazing car, good fun drive home, despite limited time (3 days, 2000 miles). Car is incredibly easy to drive at 120+. Can't wait to get it out this summer on some good twisty roads. Love the looks of this car, and the power is incredible. I am pretty confident I have the only 968 in Boise. Who can beat this performance and exclusivity for this price?

This forum has been very helpful in this purchase. In fact, I was tipped off to this car by a topic on this forum.

Stats: 1993 6spd Black/grey coupe. 83k miles. All records, I am the 3rd owner. Well cared for by previous owners. Not concours, but very good condition. No LSD or Sport package.

Attached are a few photos from the trip.

Welcome. Now lets start by doing the airbox mod. You will not be sorry. If you love driving her now...just wait!

Hey Tim,

That must be Bob Johnson's car that you bought in Memphis. That's the car I drove about a month ago. Great car, nice guy. If it had been the right color

combo, for me, I would have snatched it up. As a matter of fact, I still have pics of that car on my desk. Not many 968s in Memphis, but that's ok, I'm willing to

travel to get the right one -- just like you did. I know you'll enjoy it, I sure did for that all to brief test drive!!! By the way, did he come off of that price much?

Amoss,

You are correct. That was Bob's car. Thanks for the heads up on it. It really is a nice example. It is nice to buy a car from a conscientious Porsche guy. Really helps put your mind at ease, when his replacement car is a 2001 C4S and he is still lamenting the sale of his 968.

I will keep my eyes peeled for a good deal for you. For the record, I was able to get Bob down to 12.5 for the car, which I felt was a good fair price.

Now, I just need some more spare time to go driving!!

Tim, congrats to the new car. I did the same thing 2 weeks ago from Albuquerque back to LA.

If you ever stop by Motorsports Northwest shop, please say hello to Red Jones for me. I remembered a little over 2 yrs ago as I went to Boise to pick up my 89' silver Carrera, all the local PCA members said great things about him and his crew.

Enjoy the ride,

Howard

I will stop by Motorsports often (hopefully not TOO often). Red has received much of my money over the years, and will continue to do so. It is definitly a plus to have a trusted Porsche mechanic to leave your baby with.

Congrats on your new car. I think I know the one you bought from Autotrader.

Tim. glad to know that you used him too. At that time, I was a bit worry buying a car unseen. But after calling several local PCA officers, they all recommended Red Jones. So after picking the Carrera, the PO took me to Red's shop to look voer the car before the long drive back ( the cars had been serviced there since the dealer closed awhile back, and passed Red's PPI) . His assistant Dan was a real nice fellow too, both very straight forward.

Looks like our cars are quite similar except for the color, but you got a better deal regarding the final price. I even had to paid a little more than the asking price as there was another local buyer waiting to take my place ( I heard afterward that he got 928 from Arizona). Oh well...

Yeah, I remember when I first drove my 968 home, I was shaking! Considering my previous car was a Chevy Sprint for the past serveral years, you could just imagin what it was like to get into a high power sports car (comperativly) for the first time. That and I had to wait a month before I actually got it (longest month of my life). I didn't have a chance to test drive the car up untill the point when I got it insured. It's an awesome car to drive! Find an empty road and let'er rip!
