Any experience with an OBX LSD?
#1

Hey guys,

Anybody have any experience with the "OBX" LSD unit for the 968 transaxle? It's advertised as a helical type design vs clutch. The price seems decent, but wonder about quality, reliability, and performance... I looked at the OS Super lock marketed by RS barn but at $2000 was looking for a less costly solution to the single wheel spinning blues.....

Any info appreciated.

Thanks

i don't know about that one, but i have the guards unit and love it - good grip, smooth, and very quiet - was about $1200 as i remember (not including labor)

i think i know somebody locally to you and i who has an OEM torsen diff they would sell for quite a bit less

I have the guard as well, and I'm happy with it, but the car came with it, so I can't compare it to a non-LSD car, nor to any other type of LSD. And yes, it is far cheaper than the OS Giken. I'm no expert on the topic, but I would say that in a car as horsepower-challenged as the 968, a top-of-the-line LSD is probably overkill, unless you're planning to make some serious engine mods, or are planning to take about half a ton out of the car, or both. I've tracked my car dozens of times, and never felt wanting for traction under any conditions.

No experience with OBX LSD, but I did have some orange sunshine, purple haze, and window pane MANY years ago!

I've had several of those units on my "watch list" for over a month, but haven't pulled the trigger on any of them. Still waiting for the Belt DIY to get that supercharger installed, then I've got the chassis brace on order, then maybe by this winter I'll get to things like the limited slip. It appears I'm working my way from front to back <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I know this is an older topic, but I was considering buying this unit http://www.obxracingsports.com/products.php?pk=2148#

as part of my soon to come suspension/handling upgrades - anyone out there suing it/have experience?  It's currently on sale on eBay for $549 - seems like a great deal if it's any good...
