Alright so I am looking at buying a 968 for a really good price. However it is a tiptronic, would it be possible to convert it to a 6spd, and if so is this common and easily done?

The subject has passed a few times on 'the other' 968 board and the wiring and electronic problems make it difficult.

I guess the first question would be is the "really good" price low enough to cover the conversion? Probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $5k if you do it yourself or $10K if you have it done.



Theses cars are very integrated with their powertrain and there are mechanical, electronic, and interior trim issues to deal with. The smart money would be buying the car with the trans you want.

I agree with Dave, the best solution is to buy a 968 with the transmission you want. If the price is good enough you should be able to buy it and then trade it for a 6 speed 968. There are some 968 owners who are getting older and might be thinking of an automatic soon. (Me for one!) Good luck, Bob Blackwell.
