The shop that wouldn't change the ATF if brown is both right and wrong. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> When I was wrenching for a living; many times a car would come in with burnt fluid and then the trans
really would turn to s*** after a change <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> . The reason (or at least part of it) was the fact the the seals inside would now be hard or worn out and the fresh fluid (now thinner than the old) would get past them and cause shift problems and such (that’s the right). However
not changing it (thats the wrong) is like not changing the engine oil, it
will cause failure. I say change it yourself, it's not hard (but is messy so have allot of oil dry on hand)
Now back to Dino or synth; the only thing I can think that may cause concern is the fact that the only way to get
all the old fluid out (so your not mixing) is to pull the trans and disassemble it. Just pulling the pan and filter will get about 4-5 qts out, most auto trans will hold about 12 or so total (most in the converter and some in the cooler).
Again I say do it, remember the old Fram slogan? "Pay me now or pay me later"
