Tiptronic ???
#1

After 45 yrs of driving with a clutch, my latest Porsche has a automatic transmission !!!! I'm still not too used to it yet, ( always put my left foot to floor when I start or stop !!).

According to the manuals, the fluid should by between the two marks at 80deg C with trans in N and engine at idle. How much difference is there in the level in the tank at difference temps ??? I looked at the level last night right after I got home from the office and it was right on the money.. This morning I checked it after getting to my office, and it was about 1in below the line !! The trans works OK, smooth shifts, no noise, no leaks visible, ect. It was cooler this morn and I was not on the road that long(10 min). I added some fluid about a month ago and had the fluid midway between lines then. Is this flucuation normal, or do I have a problem ???

It's been my experience with mine that the idling, 80 Degrees, in neutral varies a GREAT deal compared to the engine cold and in park. The only accurate way to check the actual temp is to use the Bosch Hammer, so I was advised by my mechanic that normal operating temp was reasonably close and could be used as a good approximate.

Stone cold, engine off, the level is at the seam of the tank. With engine running and the fluid not hot, the level is well below the marks. I have the hammer and 80C/neutral/engine running=cold/seam of tank/engine off.
