Also called a 931 ... I had one for 7 years, daily driver. A very nice car, think of it as a junior 968 because of less power, around 150 HP. Overall the fit and finish were about like the 968, but again "less" in a variety of categories such as: A/C doesn't work as well, dashboard less usable, horrible OEM sound system, no power seats. The largest problem is the turbo itself: had poor oil circulation, and therefore the required procedure was to let it idle for about 2 minutes (maybe more) every time before you turn it off to let the turbo cool down --- else the oil in the turbo bearing would coke and soon let the turbo destroy itself. There were after market auxiliary oil pumps available that would circulate the oil for a couple/few minutes after turning the ignition off to help prevent the problem. Turbo replacement is very expensive, requires dropping the whole front suspension including the cross member.
Overall a nice car, handling is the same (but less) as a 968. A very large improvement over the regular 924: suspension, brakes, luxury items, etc. It was the basis for the 944 which was nothing more than a 924 Turbo with the Porsche 2.5 liter N/A engine and puffed out fenders, and so it has a valid and admirable place in the 924/944/968 family. Unlikely to become much of a collector car, or increase in value, and so buying expensive parts, repairs, and keeping it up to good shape will always be challenged by the emotional problem of investing more than it is worth. Mine was a silver coupe just like my 968 and also had the "getrag" transmission: 1st gear was left and down (below reverse) and then 2-5 in the normal H pattern in the middle / right -- kinda racy. But not sure who would really want it when choosing between a 931 150hp with Turbo (and serious turbo lag) vs 240hp without in the 968, (likewise nobody really wants the original pre-1985 944).
But yes, go for it, explore, it might be fun, grow the auto family, they are also very good cars.
