thinking of crashing parade
#1

i refuse to deal with pca, and we won't go into the details of that, but i'm thinking of putting together an informal 968 thing at parade this year. i was thinking of going up, checking out the concours, and maybe a meal. might incorporate a drive.

interest?

no plans yet, but that isn't to say that i couldn't be persuaded. i'm not a porsche guy, and i'm only really interested in 968 stuff, but any chance to put together some of the owners is always fun.

re: parade - i'll look at the calendar and see what makes sense and then hopefully some others would join in.

i sure wish pca would get their heads out of their butts, and set up day passes for non-members. they just might get a bunch of new converts, and they would make a ton of money doing it. probably too logical and forward thinking for the organizational mentality though.

Yeah, we should find out how many folks on here are PCA members. I am thinking a low percentage, but I could be wrong.

it's pretty low. most 968 guys have figured out that pca just isn't tuned to us. besides that, they make it so bloody hard to do anything, that they sour a lot of people. after a number of years, that's why jay and i both left. i'm sure we are not alone. maybe someday they will figure out that they need to be better at things if they want to continue to exist.

Past PCA member, but the AZ Region let's non-members participate in any events, incl track days. As a way of encouraging new members to join. I'm just too far away from Phx to be active in more than one or two events a year.

i sure wish that was the national attitude. it would go a long way toward bolstering membership.

regardless, i am already getting some response on the phone, so maybe this could be cool.

I am planning on going to the historics. I typically go both days, it is only about a 90 minutes drive from where I live. I've you plan to stay in the area get started looking for a place to say now. The Monterey car week now encompasses two weekends and the week in between.

I'll be in Monterey for car week Wednesday thru Sunday - whether the 968 comes back to life in time to make it is another question though... but that's the goal. Would love to have an unofficial 968 meet-up up there. Perhaps on the fairway at the Legends of the Autobahn event (it's on Friday). You aren't required to 'show' your car, but you can register to park on the golf course, and I bet we could persuade the organizers to reserve some corral space so the 968s can park together if there'll be more than two or three.

As far as booking a room for car week goes - it's way too late already, unless you're ok with staying in Salinas or even Gilroy (done that!) or don't mind paying $400 (and up) a night for the equivalent of a Motel 6. The rates get ridiculous real fast.

Let's do it - I'll be there for autocross and concours with blue 968...and some new surprises. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> Bob, Dan/Erni/Chris and I were talking about doing a 968 weekend run to Amador County in Oct/Nov.

The concours is open to the public, so your welcome to view the cars, just not show yours. I was planning on attending Parade, but now I'm going to the 24 Hours of Le Mans race instead.
no worries. car week is a perfectly decent reason for a discussion, but deserves its own thread.

back on topic - concours is on monday. kind of a lame day for us. perhaps doing something over the weekend, before everybody gets rolling? otehrwise, maybe saturday at the end? there is nothing much going on either day.
It appears there are no organized events such as banquets etc. scheduled on Monday or Thursday evening. Baja Cantina anyone?

If it happens to happen, I will make the trek from Reno. I was hoping to get a chance to see a group of 968s in one place.

I'm in for both the PCA event, including golf, and Amador. Looks like the 968 will live in my Sacramento garage for awhile.

Ok just so I'm clear on this, parade is in June and the proposed meet up in Amador is Oct/Nov?

that's why we need a separate thread for any other gathering. this one is only about a meet-up at or around parade.

Inasmuch as parade and I will both be celebrating turning 59 this year, a 968 gathering in Monterey sounds like big fun - especially since there in no Paso event next month :-(

I would almost certainly drive down unless it is scheduled for Saturday, the 21st. That date is already reserved for the Northern California gathering of Alembic guitar and bass players that I attend every year. (They're much more fun than PCA!)
