They finally got me!
#41

I found out the fine for "disobey highway sign (55)" it is a $30 PLUS $62 in court costs and they charge 4% if you use a credit card. WOW. What a racket! I guess it could be worse. The debate on red cameras certainly goes on. In general I'm for red light cameras but not speed cameras. Fortunally my Valentine picks up the speed cameras and it is noted that it's a photo enforce area. I will avoid the Dulles toll road as much as possible.

that's cheap

if you think that is a racket though, the toll roads here, who were privately built, made a deal with the CHP. california requires enforcement. apparently they could have done it privately or use the CHP. they chose the CHP. however, because the toll roads still wanted to keep the money, the fines are doubled.

a speeding ticket on a toll road will set you back nearly $300

and the crazy ticket stories keep coming, you just can't make this stuff up folks ; Ohio driver given a $ 345 ticket for " LITTERING " ( a police car was right behind him ) when the dollar bill he was trying to hand to a panhandler fell on the ground.. SERIOUSLY ?! The ticket was dismissed by the county based on the criteria that currency cannot be categorized as litter, but again.. SERIOUSLY , WTF ?!

Oh, and on the red light camera issue.. 100% with Flash and Chris on that. Even if a few fender benders here and there might happen as a result of it, I'd take that anyday in favor of reducing the epidemic levels of accidents resulting in death and life-long injuries that red-light runners cause.

There is part of the toll road here from Dulles Airport to Leesburg, VA that is private and is patroled by the state police. The tolls keep increasing and now it's not worth the drive. They are also planning to have the Wash. DC beltway have "hot" lanes run by a private company. What am I paying taxes for?. Although haven't paid taxes to VA in a while.

Might as well resign ourselves to every revenue enhancer the bureaucrats can think of instead of reducing wasteful spending! When NYC decides to try to ban supersized sodas one should wonder just what the attempt to mandate the purchase of health insurance that our achievement oriented President has wrought.

yeah - without supersize sodas, how are our teenagers going to stay fat? how are the car wash guys going to make any money if they can't clean our carpets from the spills? how are we ever going to keep the ant spray companies in business? and just think of all of the little chinese kids making those cups.

Little-known fact: The Chinese kids don't get to make the cups, they only get to make the lids. Cups are a promotion they only get when they reach the age of 18.
