Got a new Garage-mate
#1

Not the right location but "non-porsche" is closed so this is my best guess.

Anyways, the 968 has a new playmate in the garage.

This desire goes back several years as my SO has always really liked this car. She's been driving a van for 20+ years and its time for a change. Oddly, she chose black. I keep trying to get away from black and I keep ending up in the same old place.

Referring to a previous thread, the sound system sucks beyond comprehension. Not that it's unlistenable by any means, but it's the worst sounding deal in any car I've had for the past 10 years. Hard to believe that mb would put such a POS in their top line. Anyway, I understand that someone around here fixed that <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

My impressions are the same as flash's. This is a heavy car. It's certainly quick enough, but it really lets you know that its not a ballerina in the turns. I took it on our local fun run this weekend. In the more technical spots the 968 simply spanks it. On the high speed bends the mb could be frighteningly fast. The chassis clearly cannot manage the power that it puts down. WIth a gentler foot and a bit less anger the car is very composed - even genteel. Suits the SO perfectly - makes me appreciate the blown 968 even more.

Once you go black you never go back! Of course that has different interpretations. Me I'm not a black car kinda guy even though my rented boxster was black.

Nice rides - I owned a balck Jetta once. That was over 15 years ago and it cured me of black cars for llife! My buddy just bought the new 427 Corvette ragtop, black on black with a carbon fiber hood. So far the hood has been painted three times and the interior carbon center console has internally cracked and a new one is on order. Beautiful car, but the work! Oy Vay! All he does is polish it.

rxter,

So you never actually said what kind of car it is. It's obviously a Mercedes of some type, but I can't tell what model from the angle of your picture.

Based on context, my guess is that it's a Mercedes SL550 from the 2006-2009 model years.

I've kinda been looking at the SL500 from the 90s. Same time frame but totally different vibe than the 968...

Yeah, that was my guess as well, but wasn't sure.

Yep. SL55. Nice car but pretty boring to drive. I tried to turn it in like I do the Porsche today and jeez if felt like it weighs 2 tons. It rotated but not happily.
