They finally got me!
#1

Got a speeding ticket yesterday on the Dulles Toll road (Wash dc area). Doing 76 in a 55. The Valentine went off and i glanced over and saw the cop pointing it at me and I knew I was toast, I should have known better as that road is heavily patroled. The cop/sheriff was nice and only gave me a ticket for "disobey highway sign (55) which is only a $40 fine and 3 points. It's been 10 years since my last ticket ironically on the same road. I knew my luck would run out even with the radar detectot. He did not give me ticket for the detector even though is was dangling right in front of him. I don't know whether he saw it or was being nice. It illegal in Virginia. 2nd bullet escaped. I was in a hurry to get to the bank before it closed. RATS!

That's a bummer <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

Over here, we probably have the same laws, but they're loosely applied - it depends on how the officer is feeling that day.

I wonder if a cop who finds a detector in a car he has caught speeding actually considers it a victory of sorts, and thus will tend to pass on writing a ticket for the detector. Just a thought...

the true irony is that he was on the way to the bank. he just didn't know that it was also for this.

Joel, the difference between Cosimo's "failure to obey sign" and your "reckless" is simply age. The last time I got nailed, he wrote it for "failure to obey highway sign" too. Maybe you should get some gray highlights for that salt and pepper look next time you get a haircut.

The other funny thing is I've NEVER been written a ticket in any of my trucks, vans, or "regular" vehicles. I've always gotten a warning or talk ed my way out it. EVERY time I've been pulled over in a Porsche or Ferrari, I've ALWAYS gotten the ticket. Selective enforcement?

Cosimo....it is odd that he didn't nail you for the detector. I think they're actually supposed to confiscate it. You're right about the 3 points, but it's 95.00 give or take when you factor in the court costs which you have to pay whether you go to court or not. Talk about revenue generation.......

Wonder if that is the case in just a few States, or a majority of States , or all ..??

Detectors are permitted in Florida. However, people were getting ticketed for warning other drivers by flashing their lights. In a court ruling last week the judge ruled that ticketing drivers for flashing their lights was a violation of 1st amendment rights.

detectors are legal in cars everywhere except virginia, DC, and military bases. beware of roads that go through military bases. we have a couple of them here in california. technically they can nail you.

they are illegal in a lot of states in big rigs.

i have read that they stopped confiscating detectors in virginia.

some states (like california) have weird laws prohibiting mounting them via suction cups on windshields

In Kansas and Missouri you can usually get the fine doubled and changed to a non-moving violation. One of my sons got a failure to stop at a stop sign, changed to expired registration. My oldest got a speeding ticket, changed to a parking violation. The local government makes extra money and the ticket is not reported to the state government, thus your insurance doesn't increase!

Coincidentally I got pulled over an hour ago for an expired registration. I think the cop was admiring the car, looked for the Porsche letters on the back, and couldn't help but notice the color of the license plate sticker. I had no idea the registration was expired, as the notice you get from the DMV and mail back with money must have gotten lost in the mail or something. Anyway, he was going to give me the mandatory ticket, but his computer was on the fritz and he didn't want to make me wait 20 minutes, so he gave me a verbal warning. He said "cool old Porsche anyway", we talked about autocross for a minute, and off I went.

Here in Pa one should try to get 6 miles over the speed limit which results in fine but no points. Of course the best way is to use influence and get it fixed n court. Pay the fine get no points and the officer continues to get his quota for the month.

I think that if you have a really clean driving record it will by you some grace. I've been stopped twice in the last 5 or 6 years and both times the officer noted that I had not had any moving violations since 1967.

I think if you've got a rockin set of boobs well displayed and and great set of gams that leave nothing to the imagination tickets are unlikely!

Sounds like you did OK. As hard as I try it seems like I'm talking to a local official in some state almost every year and the lawyer/fees seem to go up. I think I'm up to about $500 per episode. And that's never the time that I take a chance and let it out a little. Perhaps I should pay attention..
