I had a big air pocket in my cooling system
#1

that's why when I put pressure on the system, the level went down about two inches!

I bled all the air out, then the level under pressure only went down about 1/4 inch.

Then while I was making the final tighten on the bleed bolt, snap! Water spewing everywhere (still had the pressure tester on the system)

What a mess!

Now the car is in the garage, waiting for me to get another bleed bolt! (I'm a dolt!)

I have also broken that bolt before. It is easy to do since it is hollow. You have to be careful not to overtighten it. Luckily for me I had another one on hand.

I got another bolt today, put it in, everything seems okay now. When I put 21psi on the system, the coolant level almost doesn't change.

Now I've learned the hard way how to tell if the system needs to be bled!

Bad part is I've gone through a month of 100 degree temps with a big air pocket in the system! The gauge never went higher than the upper white mark. So I think I'm okay...

Glad it worked out...I too had broken that bolt on my old 944. Had to use a chunk of rubber shoved in there to get home...oops.
