the good, the bad, and the silly
#1

So. . . some decent looking cars on autotrader, some with prety low mileage! (sub-50K.) but the prices are pretty silly. . .

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/searchresult...00&make=POR

this one is nice, silver cab with light grey interior:

this one looks like a potential Flashmobile clone:

prices are crazy high though. . . (!)

Trying to decide if my convertible is a 968 or an e46 M3.

Maybe we're entering a phase of stronger 968 prices? If we get closer to 6 figures, I might start considering selling mine.

Well, what's the age for "classic" status? 15 years, isn't it? So those of us with '92 and '93 models....

I'm glad I got into mine when I did... an outright steal @ $9500 compared to the current prices!

Never forget, a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. You can ask any price your want. FWIW, the Silver cab in Nashville is pretty stock. The Hearst Black Book (a real world indicator of dealer wholesale and retail) for that car is $14.1 wholesale and $16.9 retail. I traded emails with them, as I was thinking about going back to Polar Silver, but not at that price.

yeah pretty nutty. These low mileage cars are priced way too high according to Excellence etc. . . you are right though it's what people are willing to pay. We'll see how long they stay on the market.

Flash I will take you up on that offer next time I'm in socal, w00t!

I’m always amazed by this...why does everyone think this car should continue to be so under-valued? What other car for the money...even at 25K brings this much driving excitement? These cars under 50K miles and well persevered should bring that and more...

Don't get me wrong; I would love to see the value of our cars increase. The reality is, you can pick up a 2001-2003 M-3 Coupe or Cab with similar mileage in the same price range.

I've always felt the 968 is the best kept secret. I also got mine at a steal of a price and agree w/ the performance and smile factors. I now want another, a low mileage cab. I dont think that the prices will ever reflect what these cars are worth unless somehow the 968 get some type of media attention. Kinda like the Supra in the fast and the Furious.

back to the OT- This one is starting to grow on me.

That black cab looks just like mine did "before". For the price, I'd consider it a steal - particularly if the new owner can do any of the needed work. The only thing that would bother me is the cracked dash - I had that, and replaced the dash. I'm not sure how easy it is to find good dashes any more, though. Everything else is relatively easily dealt with. As for the mileage - what can I say, my car has more!

LOL. Yup, I knew the flame was coming.

When I 1st saw it on ebay I thought one thing PIMP mobile. Just wasn't for me. Saw it again and thought the same. But this time, w/o the hoochie mamas hanging on it, the profile w/ those rims on it makes it look stunning. Your able to get away w/ the purple because its so deep. The wire mesh in the front adds a modest contrast that also works. And then take into account the low miles and how clean the car is.

Its a bit loud and I don't like the intr being purple but Id buy it if I could tone it down w/ a dark intr.

I hope the buyer joins this forum.

i am amazed at how much work was done without us knowing about it ahead of time - it just sort of "appeared" 2 years ago - i was impressed at the effort expended, even though some of it missed the mark in my view

i am pretty sure some of it will have to be redone - from what i heard, a few of the things don't work right - i have been told that the doors had "issues" - i know the headlights didn't fit right, and probably did not project the beam correctly - the wheels are also too big for the car (without wearing out a suspension very quickly) but that one is easily corrected

the sound system was overkill, and precluded really using the car for a weekend trip - that would have to be reworked a bit to give back some storage, but again, not a big deal

this was really a parking lot showoff car, and not a road car - i am "function over form", so it was definitely not for me

the color, though not for me, was stunning, and the interior was nicely done (again, not my color though)

it also has a lot of cool stuff, like big reds and such

that being said, this car has been for sale for well over a year - it started at something silly like 40k - while i like to see the prices stay up, it's nice to see that it is now down in the more reasonable range - perhaps somebody will buy it and turn it back into a road car

i just realized that the car appears to be out here now - when i saw it, it was on the east coast - not sure if it is the same owner or not

Pretty sure it sold. In the final days of the auction, as we were all mocking it, there were like 17 bids on the car.

When you add up the work invested, the price is even more appealing. I remember the issues discussed about 19" as well.

The Top is new.

The interior was redone with glove soft leather Sell -but who would buy?

The carpet is exceptional.

you know, may not be such a crazy idea for every owner on this forum to flood ebay, craigslist, autotrader, excellence, panorama, etc with our cars up for sale between, say.. $ 50 - $ 60k; one person does that and it's met with laughter, but if suddenly dozens and dozens of 968s show up with prices in that

range, just the market speculation alone as to what may be causing this incredible surge could have a significant affect on values and who knows, someone somehere may just be so crazy about a particular 968 ( and clueless enough ) to buy it at $ 50K + .. and once a tangible sale is tied to the hype, whooo-hoo.. we're all driving classics
