Silly but serious issue
#1

So, I'm finally going to Seattle to p/u my new baby, and I went to the MVD/DOL/DMV here in AZ and got my 30-day tag (need eyes on for VIN verification for metal tags...). Small issue popped up. I was planning on driving top-down as much as possible on the trip back to AZ, esp. once i got into the warmer climate states. The paper tag has to be in either the back window (fine the first couple days when it'll be raining anyway), or somewhere on the back of the car. I suppose I could just leave the thing in the back window the whole time, but I don't feel like stopping 19 times to explain that to the cops once the top comes down. Any ideas as to affixing the tag elsewhere? I figured SOMEone had to have run into this when they made their purchase...

I have thought about laminating the tag, then get magnetic strips with sticky on the back, then "frame" the back to allow the tag to magnetically adhere to the car, but not sure if it'd work, esp. at highway speeds....

Like I said, it's a silly issue, but I need to address.

Thanks everyone!

Most of those temp tags you can just attach to were the license plate would be with the same screws.

Put it on the bumper where the regular plate goes and cover it with 2" clear tape. It'll last a few days there. Even better; tape it to a piece of lexan or even 1/4 plywood and screw it on like a plate.

btw- there isn't a lot of metal on the back of the car, so the magnets won't work very well...

I've come across this issue once before and I just wrapped the temporary paper tag in a clear plastic 1 gallon ziplock baggie, sealed it shut and screwed the covered tag into the space provided for the plate on the rear of the car. I drove thru (rain) in NH, MA, CT, NY, and PA on my way home and even had cops (MA staties) tailing me for a few miles w/o any issue.

Yep - my paper tag is still in the holder a month later (tins are in the glove but what the hey).

Did you grab the polar blue at park place? Looks very clean.

No, white cab in Carnation. Found it on cars.com (no longer listed, naturally <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />)

Thanks everyone.... I think I'll get some thick laminate (so the cops can read it very clearly), and then screw it in to the plate holder. Was originally worried about losing the tag on the highway, but doesn't seem to have been a problem in the past. Thanks again!

Auto parts stores sell clear plastic plate covers...keeps other from easily ripping the paper tag off...

A simple license plate frame will work very well at keeping the paper plate in shape and from going anywhere. Congrats on the new cab. Don't forget to register it with my cab registry. Jeff
