On the left side of the crankcase at the very top near the coolant socket w/ bleeder screw there are two sensors.  The one toward the front of the engine seems to be called a "temperature sensor" #944-606-125-00 and the one behind it towards the rear, is called "remote temperature sensor" #928-606-201-01.  Can someone tell the difference in functionality?   The remote temp sensor seems to have two simple exposed spade connectors instead of a weather proof connector like the other temp sensor toward the front.  Looks kind of wrong to me. The are little corroded.


 

edit:  I think I figured it out.  The remote temp sensor is coolant temp sensor which goes to the dash.  The one is front is the oil temp sensor, however I am not sure where it goes.

 

Anyone know the wiring harness# that is supposed to attach to the coolant temp sensor?  seems kind of wrong to me with the spade connectors being exposed like that.

The front one (blue AMP plug) is the coolant temp sensor for the ECU, the one behind that is the feed for the dash gauge (2 spades)


There is a third sensor up the top by the fuel rail level with the variocam solenoid, this is the oil temp sensor for the ECU, for switching the vario and the emissions vapour burn valve

Interesting.  So there are 3 places where coolant temp is taken?

 

1.  in the radiator tempswitch which run to a relay in the fuse box which then powers on the engine/radiator fan.

2.  The blue AMP plug on crankcase which goes to the ECU.  

3.  the spade on the crankcase which goes to the instrument panel.

Cant really call the rad fan switch a sensor, its just a temperature controlled switch
