tailgate pins problem
#1

Hi guys hope your all well.

Having a few problems with the tailgate rattling around which is enoying to say the least and i have replaced them but cannot seems to set them to stop the tailgate making an knocking noise when driving down a road which is not prefectly smooth,

I have adjusted them on numerous occassions which eliminates the rattle for a day or so and then it starts again thought i would ask you guys in the know incase there are any tricks of the trade.

thanks in advance for any help

it's likely the frame itself. the potmetal design sucks and lets the screws loose, or breaks altogether.

also, make sure it's the tailgate and not the seats. those are well known for misleading you. the big bubble back window is like an ampitheater. the center hinge point is notorious for making a racket and sounding like it's coming from somewhere else.

thanks flash

im sure its the pins as when i shake the boot lid up and down from the spoiler you can hear the knock from one side. is it the case i will have to keep adjusting till i find the optimum setting i have changed one pin and have another one for the other side will do that also.

The frame of the lid did fly off so was fully replace along with new bolts so think thats fine also.

didn't say thanks for the help with the floaty steering i put the front splitter on (oem) and it helped alot and changed the p6000 tyres.. so a biig thank you for all your help

I had a rattly hatch as well. Tightened up all the frame bolts and that solved most of the problem. Unfortunately, the 4 bolts that hold the wing on just spin, so I've still got a pretty good racket going over bumps from that.

Do I need to take everything apart to fix the problem with the wing bolts?

2 of the bolts that spin are easy to fix, just need a wrench to hold the nuts inside the wing while tightening. I think you do have to remove the flanges with a split screw driver first.

I have the same problem and have tried to adjust the hatch pins to no avail. I am not sure what u mean by the frame bolts that hold the wing on?

Just a quick update spent 3 hours stripping the boots liners shaking everything that would move and finally found out what was the noise.......it was the battery bracket put 2 washers on top of it tightened it up and problem solved.

So if you also have a stange noise have a look at the battery, it did not sound like it was coming from there but problem solved so i am happy.

thanks for all the help

Add me to the list for rattly tailgates. I've have tried in vain to locate the culprit for about 1 year now (it comes and goes). Even had my 11yr old daughter stretched out in the back while I'm driving to try to pin it down. Needless to say I did get a few complaints from her about that. I will check the battery bracket as per MDSS as I would love it to be something so simple. I'll try the tip to tighten the screws holding the spoiler too as I noticed mine were loose.

The story above reminds me of a few days back when I totally dismantled my wifes laptop because I was certain it had a faulty power input, only to find it was the power jack.. Getting the laptop back together was a tad harder than taking it apart. She still doesn't know and considers me a God of fixing stuff. There is a moral to these stories isn't there!
