Switching insurance...!
#1

Well, after farting around for a number of years, I have decided to cancel my limited use insurance policy (2500 miles per year max, and liesure use only!) and add the 968 to my regular car insurance policy. I still opted for use during "fair" weather months (to cut down on the premium), but that only means I am not allowed to operate the '68 on the road from December thru March. Not so bad considering the coverages I have, and given the fact that I really have no desire to drive it when it's cold/snowing/icy.

So, I have been working with RSB and sooner or later, the old girl will go in for some basic service and for some items that should be done just due to age. Then I can start thinking about the required body work (some dents in hood, sagging driver's door, etc.) and subsequently a new paint job (ouch!). The new paint job is probably still a ways off in the future, but I have always wanted to get it done. And, of course, go back to trying to focus on some of the mods I have always wanted to make or need to complete:

NACA ducts

Finish my 993 wheel install (yes- for those that remember- I still have not completed my 993 steering wheel!)

Reset my airbag light (have all the stuff, just need to do it)

Recover the door panels

Tint the windows (ghetto I know, but think of it from a UV exposure perspective)

Attach my splitter (had it for at least 3 years now!)

Install a new stereo and some decent speakers

ETC.

I still am not sure how long I will keep the car (due to job changes, life changes, whatever) but I figure I should at least enjoy it while I have it. You never know when you may need to get rid of it!

That's it for now- but keep in mind I'm fickle (I still want a 993 RS clone real bad!) so how far I get is anyone's guess! Perhaps I can someday walk into my garage and fire up my custom Aventurine Green 968 turbo! I suppose anything is possible.... presuming the financial director buys into it!

fun stuff

i'm curious about the naca ducts - is this a cosmetic thing or functional?

i ask because i just completed a very serious effort of sealing off air from getting under the hood and into the engine bay - i added a lot of abs pieces to prevent, control, and direct the air under the hood, as well as an intake plenum - the result was a very nice drop in under hood temps as well as a sensation of being more planted at high speed (presumably the increase of downforce)

open naca ducts would add unwanted air to the engine bay, so i was wondering if you are attaching them somewhere, or just going for a look

Strictly visual. I'm a whore like that! From what I have read previously, one of them actually was used to feed air to the turbo or air intake or something. The other was just to even out the looks from what I recall. Could be wrong though. Regardless, if I do them, I will probably try to seal off the back side anyway... more for water intrusion than anything. Not too worried about high speed stability, but I do get concerned about under-hood temps, and may look into the lower temp thermostat for grins...

I don't drive too fast anymore (having a 5yr old, and a 1yr old tends to make one more aware of his/her actions!). Can't remember the last time I exceeded 80mph...

This is going to be a slow process no matter what. Finances right now are strained due to the work I am doing in the basement so I don't want to break the bank for my toy. Once the basement is complete, I can think about some of the bigger ticket items!

no worries - was just curious if somebody else was after elusive power something

i found myself pursing the engine bay aerodymanics project as a result of looking at all the things they had already done to limit and direct the air under there - i just went a few steps farther - most of it worked - i'd have to tunnel test the actual downforce increase and drag reduction (lol - not gonna happen), but it seems to suck down better over 100, and i have seen a nice drop on the underhood temp guage

porsche probably would have done much of this if the car continued or got into racing

it's all fun though - enjoy
