Supersprint Exhausts
#1

I came across Supersprint today and their writeup on their site sound pretty impresive. I was wondering if anyone here has this sytem installed and what their opinion of it is.

looks like a canister style muffler. I looked at their system a while ago. Wonder what it sounds like. As with all cat-backs, not much..if any power gains to be had. This one seems as though it wont have enough back pressure for our cars.

Thanks for the info Fox.

I have dropped them an email asking for Dyno charts for the 968. It could very well be that they assume the 944 exhaust is a good fit for the 968, and we all know that's a bad assumption. What got me thinkng was this write up...

"<i>Requirements of stock low volume street engines are much different from high revving, high horsepower race engines. Road race applications are also much different from off road applications. Supersprint treats each situation individually to produce the best possible part for the intended use.

Custom road racing applications require hand made, thin wall stainless steel tubing to produce the highest and most useful power from the lightest exhaust system. For demanding off road use Supersprint utilizes heavy gauge steel for resistance against rock and gravel impact. Whether for street or race use, Supersprint researches, designs, tests, and builds exhaust systems for real world power and long lasting, quality construction.

Unlike the countless competitors Supersprint has seen come and go, since 1955, Supersprint does it’s homework on the dyno, the street and the track. I have dropped them an email asking for Dyno charts for the 968. It could very well be they they assume the 944 exhaust is a good fit for the 968, and we all know that's a bad assumption. Our extensive knowledge has been earned on thousands of cars around the world.
This knowledge provides Supersprint with the uncanny ability to extract power from engines when other exhaust manufacturers can only produce higher noise levels. Supersprint products are developed around scientific knowledge not assumptions.

Other manufacturers of exhaust systems are happy with larger diameter tubing, restrictive silencer design, increased noise levels and chrome tips to lure customers. But our commitment to performance and quality prevents such an approach. Instead we at Supersprint design and build around each engine’s performance characteristics. Exhaust flow rates and velocity are dramatically increased by Supersprint designs while still retaining factory OEM diameter tubes. We know it is actually easier to loose horsepower through misuse of larger diameter tubing and badly designed silencers.
Each component from header to tailpipe is accurately tuned and suited to each particular engine by Supersprint engineers.

A critical balance between lower back pressure level and flow rate must be ensured for optimum performance. When Supersprint develops a system for a new car, hand built prototypes are made and extensively dyno tested, rebuilt and re-tested.
Combinations of tubes and perforated cores with outside diameter ranging from 32mm (with 2mm. 3mm, and 5mm increments in size) up to 76mm are utilized for best results. Nothing is assumed. Only modifications that create proven performance in mid-range torque, and top end power increases, qualify for final production. There is no make-do engineering at Supersprint.

The quality of a Supersprint exhaust system also includes meeting sound emissions restrictions. All Supersprint street legal systems meet the stringent requirements of TUV testing for quality, design, construction and sound emissions.
Supersprint recommends the use of complete exhaust systems (header, center & rear muffler) to achieve the highest performance gains.</i>"

I finally got an answer from Supersprint. Here's what they said:

<i>"The Porsche 968 system has not been finalised yet so there are no dynometer
readings.

I asked the factory in Italy when it is likely to be finished but they were
unable to give me an approximate date.

Sorry I am unable to tell you the information you asked for."</i>

Now that I have exhausted all european options, my order will be going to RS Barn.

I have the Barn's exhaust on my car (Cat Back) and I am very happy with it. it sounds great!!!
I had to make a small modification to the rear hanger and a slight bend just after the cat but not a big deal. I did the chip, air box mod and exhaust all at once and I had seen a big improvement. the only downfall is I really don't know what really made the biggest diff. whether it was the chip, air box mod or the exhaust.
But at the end of the day it sounds, looks and feels Awesome!!!
My advice would be to go with the Barns exhaust I think you will be very satisfied.

AAARRRGGGHH.....you're not making it easy for me! That tip looks so much better than my rusty brown stock tip.

I have already receieved my stage 1 chip from the Barn and I have the bass ports to do the airbox mod as well. I am just a little hesitant to cut my airbox....I prefer my cars to look stock. But I have called a breaker's yard and they have an airbox for me, so I might cut that one up and save my box for when I want to return the car to stock.

The problem with me being on the other side of the pond is the import duties and shipping. I have to pay another 19% import duty + how knows what on shipping. My guess is that the Cat Back will set me back at least 850 Euro and that is why I was hoping to source something locally. I can get performance exhaust here for 500 euro, but like you see from the email, no one can provde me with evidence that I will not be losing power. RS Barn on ther other hand is happy to provide me with dyno charts to prove their system is good and I really respect that.

The airbox mods work best with the early front engine cover (how do I know?) They usually can be found used. Then you don't see airbox anyway

It's only 1 bolt to take it of .... and then you can polish it

... or you take it to one of these workshops that can put chrome on it B)

Thanks Pete, I never thought of it that way. I knew the engine cover was good for more than just looks!

@The_Oz...I saw the bolt and was wondering about it. Since my exhaust is off the car while I am doing the clutch, I think I am going to give it a go with some polish. At least it will look the part until I can order the exhaust from RS Barn.
