attention Audiophiles... speaker problem
#1

Out driving today (hit 86 here on the right coast). Noticed that the left side (driver's side for are dislexic friends) and noticed there was no sound coming that side. Had to turn up the volume all the way up to get any sound. Finlandia just doesn't sound very good only coming from one side. So, is a major problem? I usually don't play the radio very loud unless I'm next to a "ricer" with hip hop or rap on. What to check?

Cosimo,

Could be anything from a loose wire to a blown amplifier channel (left side). Is your audio completely stock or aftermarket? I'm local - my office/warehouse/shop is in Sterling and although we don't do car audio, (we do home A/V), I've tinkered with car audio since high school. I'm finally getting ready to upgrade my sound - have all the parts, just need the time. If you need some help in diagnosing, please feel free to come by. PM or e-mail for directions.

When I purchased my car 3 weeks ago neither of the 2 left speakers worked, I replaced the stock Porsche head unit w/ an Alpine CD unit and connected it up to the stock speakers and all 4 speakers now work. I have read on other threads this is not an unusual problem w/ the stock units.

I have new speakers on order, they were ordered w/ the head unit but due to a screwup by the selling dealer they shipped the wrong ones.

Never mind! While driving my car to my mechanic to have it checked out, I noticed the on/off button was pulled out. This controls the right and left speakers. It was set to the RHS. Reset and Viola, both sides working. Duh. Now it's Finlandia in full volume. Dumb me!
