Attention Dave!
#1

So, a bunch of us are planning on picking up this rollbar Flash is throwing together right? I was thinking, anyone (968engineering?) think they'd be able to fabricate some kind of strap on netting that would look right, and serve as a windscreen? Because essentially thats all the Porsche windscreen is right, is some netting on a plastic frame. Why not just use the rollbar as the frame?

Would this work?

Could anyone manufacture such a thing?

Can you sew?

I've proposed the idea a couple times already. I will be coming up with something for my self, but am not in the production business. I think it would be easy to come up with something that looks good. I will be happy to share what I end up doing when the time comes. There isn't much incentive for Bob (has a windscreen) or Dave (coupe) for the obvious reasons.

Anything is possible I suppose. There is more to the factory wind stop than just the vertical element. There is horizontal element too. See the pictures in the roll bar thread.

Lets let Bob get the bar done first.

Bob - Do you have dimensions on the rollbar?

Thanks!

i will after it's officially done - the windscreen is a pretty sophisticated piece - the right mesh, the right framing, and the right attachment are essential to making it work - that being said, i'm sure it can be done - it may end up being a lot of trouble though - i thought about it myself - after looking at it closely, and determining that i was going to end up with almost exactly what they already did, i decided it wasn't worth it to reinvent the wheel - believe it or not, the horizontal section is actually what makes it work well - it gives the cabin less turbulence and closes in that section for security - very nice features - the vertical section only blocks the back breeze - even with the vertical section down, the cabin wind is dramatically reduced by the horizontal section (much like a tonneau cover)

Ahh, I see. I forgot about the horizontal section. I've seen some cars with windscreens that don't have that section on them though. Maybe once I get my rollbar, I'll play around with it a little. My wife can sew...

i'm still not done thinking about it myself - i knew i wanted to work out somthign that worked with the existing one so people who liked that one could still use it - i'm still not stuck on it though - really an awkward design - i don't like the little legs and all that - a pain in the butt to use if you want the top to go up and down easily (and you use the boot cover)

who knows? it could be another thing i end up making

From what I've seen from the photos, it looks like we might be able to fasten the vertical section of the Porsche windscreen to the roll bar, and then have that be the support for the entire screen. I don't think the horizontal section would "collapse" past horizontal if the vertical was fixed in place, so the little legs and the extension posts could simply be removed. I'll be trying that, unless someone has already disproven the possibility, when I GET MY ROLL BAR FROM THE FIRST BATCH!!!

the horizontal section of the screen rests in a slightly different orientation from "normal" with the roll bar - i will be giving instructions of what to do to adapt the screen to work with the roll bar (will probably have a kit available, maybe through 968 engineering) - pretty simple stuff, but it will still need to have rear legs

Acknowledged - and, once I see the interaction between the roll bar and the screen, undoubtedly understood.
