STUPID PEOPLE!
#1

Question: How do you retaliate against stupid people?

Example: Someone walks out into the middle of the street with 35 mph traffic. I slow down because I'm merging into the left turning lane anyway, which is unprotected so I yield for oncoming traffic, but this moron sees me coming and walks hastily back to the median as he realizes [to his surprise] that there might be cars driving up and down the f***ing street! So as I turn left into the driveway this prick exclaims that I'm supposed to stop for him and calls me a f***ing asshole. There was no traffic incident, not even close, and I was going slowly anyway but all I see is some idiot walking out into traffic without looking.

So I park my car, get out, and here's what's going through my head:

1) Do I go over there and beat his ass for being an idiot, then insulting me? Nope...don't want to go to jail.

2) Tell him how much of a goddamn idiot he is, cussing and making a scne? Nope...don't want to go to jail, or the hospital if he has a weapon.

3) Leave the clown alone? Great...so he gets away with calling me an asshole?

This is bulls***. Why do stupid people get the better outcome in these situations? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Pedestrians always have the right of way even if they're breaking the law - but I understand your pain and frustration. Unfortunately the world is full of careless idiots and many times the law prevents us from knocking some sense into them.

Case and point, I've been cut-off and almost hit by some careless b*stard yakking on their cell while driving a gas-guzzling behemoth. This pisses me off to no end! Chances are they will never be cited for their acts and I'm not about to make my point with my 3000# car. Even if you mentioned it to a cop, he's just going to assure that yes there are dumb-ass drivers and all you can do is try to avoid them. I really hate it when pedestrians take advantage of that bs. ie any intersection in SF.

I do my best to show courtesy when I'm walking or driving. Which is very hard sometimes but in the end it will be better.

Oh, and what happened to me was one of the biggest examples of life not being fair.

Its always the good and innocent who suffer travesties and those who deserve punishment walk.

i've been known to go pretty much with number 2 - i feel it's my job to jump right back in somebody's face when they are being an idiot

yes, i now the guy technically had the right of way - however, just because you CAN do something does not mean that you SHOULD do something

case in point - just because you have 2 people in the car, and can drive in the commuter lane, it does not mean that you should be going more slowly than the other lanes - the reason for the lane is to speed up traffic, not slow it down - if you want to drive slower, move over to a lane more appropriate

cell phones - i have recently taken to chasing people down and yelling at them about their inattention while they are on their cell phone - fortunately talking on a cell phone in the car won't be legal next month, and many insurance companies are going to treat it as a point violation, meaning BIG costs - woohoo!! finally!

I would say it depends on the vehicle you are driving.

1) In the 968...proceed to park carefully and raise no concerns.

2) In an H2- "What was that? A speed bump???

lol - i remember 20 some odd years ago, when i had a 66 dodge van with a pumped 318 stuffed into it, bondo on every corner, and a 2" x 4" c-channel for a front bumper, i used to "persuade" people that they needed to move along

When a pedestrian crossing traffic (which is a seldom as possible in SoCal) I follow 2 simple rules.

1) The right of way is not something that you take, it is something that is yielded to you (I'd hate to be arguing with the driver from a hospital bed)

2) Its the cars that will kill you, not the lights

I'm with flash on this one, I almost CANNOT not respond to people who get in my face. Better now than when I was 17, but it still burns my a#% when stuff like that happens.

You could move to Florida. Yes, we have a lot of traffic come winter time due to the migrating snow birds; however, failure to yield to yield to a pedestrian results in only a $75 fine. So, for less than it would cost to take the family out to the movies, you can take out a pedestrian. The cost of taking the family to Disney = 4-5 pedestrians. I'll let you decide which is more fun.

Aww, Dam.

I thought cell phones were illegal this month.

The sooner the better.

What about eating in cars?

I have to admit I do do it.

When I was driving the 968 I would eat in, now I really could care less.

Because there stupid.

In the blink of an eye I use to square off with anyone who disrespected me like that. But as I reflect on the outcome of such events, and there were many, I realize that to onlookers, we both appeared as low class jerks that lacked self control and the outcome rarely left me satisfied. I have a much better grasp on the battles worth fighting now and in my eyes, if he didn't pursue you or threaten you, you should be able to laugh it off, as he is the jerk. Dont let a stupid person ruin your day or worse make you appear as stupid as them.
