Spring rate and wheel rates
#1

Does anyone know off the top of their heads what the spring and wheel rates are for the rear 968cs Konis w rear coilover helpers? The reason I'm asking is that I've just had my whole Mo30/968cs taken out and replaced with a totally new system by KW. The funny thing is that the new rears are approx. 708 lb/in coilovers which is equivalent to about

300 lb/in at the wheel but there is more up and down movement when pushing on the rear hatch than the old system which I would have thought to be much softer especially looking at the difference in springs. I know that KW employ a sophisticated valving so possibly at rest it doesn't deploy the same compression as at speed? I am grasping here and definitely not disappointed by the new setup which is fantasmagorical. SO MUCH MORE GRIP! It's astounding. The test will come in a few hours at the track but I was just curious as to the apparent anomaly? Oh and this is on a 951 but that shouldn't make any difference. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

the konis are at least part gas, so that may explain the "firmness" when you just bounce the back end - they add their own bit of resistance, and you don't have enough force to overcome that when just bouncing the back end of the car, so it "feels" firmer than it would with a fluid shock (no idea if the kw is fluid or not though)

the cs springs are only 70lbs, so the resultant rate is not that high

p.s. - i finally get to remeasure and recalculate everything wednesday when i get in there to change my springs again
