No idea , I think it's contracted out and the city gets part of the revenue , but just a guess

Must be a great business opportunity. Wonder what it costs to win the bid for the contract?

In Florida, if you park in a handicap spot with out a placard, it's a minimum $250 fine.

There are of course people who still abuse it.

Another business opportunity. Sell the handicapped cards online. No offense intended

I think you get a note from your doctor, then you can get the state to issue one.

The abuse is when someone has a legitimate placard or license plate when they have a handicapped family member, but use the handicapped spot when the handicapped person is not with them.

The sharpest warning I ever got for parking was back in 1997 in Northern Ireland, parked for about 3 mins while looking at the map and there was a bang on the car roof from the passenger side, which of course you look at instantly, then a voice on the drivers side said hands on the wheel, looked round and I have the business end of a MP5 machine gun in my face, that required a change of underwear!

There's a street I always parked on and one day a guy got his own handicapped parking spot installed in from of his house. I always parked there so I didn't even look if there was a sign. $500 fine. I went to court and argued that the sign just got installed and didn't see it. They reduced it to $60. Then found out from the cop that gave me the ticket that he didn't want to give me a ticket but the owner of the handi spot complained so much that he had to give me a ticket. The guy got a special handi parking spot because he was obese.

I'm surprised to hear that's legally allowable ( " private " handicap parking spots ) but I suppose it varies from state to state or city to city as to what local regulations permit.

Incidentally, I see more corvettes with handicap placards displayed in those choice parking spots than any other type of car ...which I always felt was somewhat bizarre - not that a handicapped person can't drive a sports car but why so many corvettes ? Just pondering .. ( I know this may beg for some jokes at the expense of corvette drivers , but I'm actually serious and wondering what the common thread is..)

I am 50 with a torn meniscus in my left knee that goes between a total hobble with a cane, to totally fine... and I can barely get out of the 968. I don't see how handicapped people can get in and out of a vette.

I have seen handicapped plates on motorcycles as well. I suppose they can ride, but I am sure their reflexes are severely limited in an emergency which begs the question, why give them tags? At some point, we all have to leave more and more on the table.
