Who among us votes?

Tama I will check that stuff out. So gentleman we had a minimal response to my voting question. Once again I am delighted that we can have a robust discussion of opposing views that do not escalate into negative realms. Certainly it would be difficult to extrapolate from this small result. Suffice it to say we are an opinionated bunch! The New Yorker has a cartoon calendar that my Mom give me every xmass. This one catches my eye. "well you can either agree with me or be wrong"! Wrong about what? To each his own.

I especially like the fact they included "more better grammar" with the TacBac - 10+yr shelf AND grammar rolled into one? Sign me up!

Going back to topic, somewhat - I find that talking politics is kinda like pissing uphill, into the wind.... From my perspective, most people who are vocal about politics are so far left or so far right, that I find them lacking a sufficient amount of common sense. They are so ingrained in what this party or that party stands for, that they seem to have abandoned rational thought long, long ago.

As I mentioned, I need to get involved locally, which I will. I believe if more people got involved locally, influence could trickle "up" over time. Starting at the national level is an utterly useless endeavour, period.

I agree with the get involved locally. Trickle up, who among us gets real specific value from any national candidate? The movers and shakers that back national figures want ear and advantage. If your a defense contractor this makes sense. Locally politicians have a greater likelihood of listening, demographic is smaller and easier to influence just through access . So move right along.

I was channel surfing yesterday and stopped at Letterman's show ( well, only because I noted Kate Upton was scheduled to be on ) but heard him say that not all the republican front runners are alike ; Santorum is opposed to same sex marriage, Romney is also opposed to same sex marriage, Newt just seems to be opposed to same marriage sex ! pretty funny. ;-). Though after seeing Kate on the show later on, Newt might have a point.. just kidding !!

I vote in all elections, and I creeping toward being politically active. I was elected to school board becsue the schools are failing and the adminsitrators tell me the kids do not need to have any knowledge. I do beleive our conutry is at a crossroad.

I think quite a few of us have indicated that we have more confidence in the potential of making a difference at a local level, as opposed to congressional or presidential arena where the same tired old DC b.s. Politics prevails no matter who is in office .

A typical DC scenario –

The DC area has one of the highest gas rates in the nation. On average, it’s much higher than its neighbors (MD & VA). So D.C. Council members came together to try an equalize things. The Majority of gas stations in DC are owned by one man (Mamo). a man who nets $778 million a year. So to act in the interest of all, the council was looking to stop price gouging where few are benefitting greatly at the expense of many who are crying out for justice. Who would vote against such an action that would help so many of the people they serve? It’s obviously the right thing to do.

Well, it was noted that Mamo made several “contributions” to various council members. I believe it was 6 of them (I may have that wrong as I can’t find the story). Low and behold, 6 voted against the legislation.

And just think, these are the "little" issues which are happening daily.

California must have someone competing with DC's "Mamo".. they always use the emission additives a a reason, but that's just one more lame excuse for gouging, IMHO .
