I drive by this sign several times during any given week and always slow down.. pretty effective I guess. stopped to take a photo a few days ago..

Speeding tickets are a way of life! Embrace them. I don't get as many anymore but by the time I was 25 I had that many. Used to drive my Dad nuts!

Believe it or not. I went about 20 years before getting my first ticket. Was given 3 warning though.

LOL I NEVER drive the speed limit. I typically average 10 MPH over. But I don't go weaving in and out of slower cars either. When i approach a a slower car I lift and match their speed. If they don't move right after seeing me in their mirror for about 10 seconds then I go around them. This has helped me as well. Often people know the road their traveling and slow down because they know where the speed traps are. Had I gone blazing around them I would've been cooked.

Agreed. I'm a right lane guy as much as I can be. Don't attract as much attention!

I have absolutely no explanation as to why I haven't had a speeding ticket in over 25 years, and IIRC, only two speeding tickets since I started driving almost 40 years ago, particularly given my propensity for speeding..often..and by huge margins over the limit on the highway. Perhaps a combination of being extra attentive to the surroundings at all times, not sustaining those speeds for more than a minute or so after reaching them, so a majority of the time I'm matching the flow of traffic speeds, not weaving in and out of lanes, and...luck ! Lots of luck I suppose. :-) Also, I almost never go more than 5 mph over the limit on city streets. Maybe that also has a lot to do with it.

no worries dan - the next time you leave paso robles, i'll call ahead for you and make your reservation.

the key to not getting speeding tickets is really pretty easy:

1. don't weave in and out of traffic

2. stay out of the left lane

3. don't be the fastest car out there

4. keep the margin of your speed relative to the rest of traffic fairly close. the rate at which you pass cars is one way they notice you

5. don't drive something that draws attention (no stickers on the car, not beat up, no big wings, yada yada - you know - things that scream "look at me. i drive fast, and i'm dangerous")

i had 23 tickets in my first 3 years of driving. my license was suspended more than i had it. i drive faster now than i did before, but i don't get tickets much anymore. it's because i pay attention to and follow the points above.

I've not had a speeding ticket since1967. I got that one for exhibition of speed when I shut down a friends Chevy Impala SS 396 with my 409 Chevy Bel Aire in a drag race

I do mind the speed limit in and around towns and cities. On the freeway, I'm never the fastest car out there and I don't work the traffic like a lot of the hot rod ricers here in California like to do. I do "check my six" on a regular basis. I've made a mental note of all of the "hides" the CHP likes to use with their radar speed traps and so I'm careful about my speed as I approach those areas. I save my aggressive driving for the backcountry roads that are less traveled and less heavily patrolled.

The 2 points above are to live by.

@pt3- I've seen the car Behind me as well as the in front get pulled over allowing me to escape. One officer jumped out and came after 3 of us doing 80. I was the last car in the line and saw him coming, i lifted and by the time he got behind me I was down around 73 in 65. I moved over the right and he went on to light up the roof on the car #2.

@pt4 - They have air craft patrolling the DC area. They monitor your speed and send tickets based on how long it takes your car to travel from one broken line to the next- distance / time = speed. A 70MPH pass of a car or two from 1000' (or what ever they fly at) isn't as noticeable as the guy passing everyone at 90MPH

Call me selfish, but I like to play the fastest guy out in front of me as bait...keep him just within my line of sight.
