Speed pulse sensor, where is it?
#1

Im in the process of installing a nav system on the car, but I need to connect a wire to the speed pulse sensor. Does anybody know where I can tap into it inside the car?

Thanks

Check discussions on installing a newer Porsche radio CR-210 or CR-220 Beckers. Those radios use a connection to the speedometer to adjust volume based on hiway speed. This was discussed on 968.net a couple of times, but real patience is needed to search that database anymore. You will probably need to run a jumper from one of the instrument cluster cables to your nav system.

Ron,

IIRC - you can access the speed sensor at the ABS control (left front wheel well?) and/or the the DME (computer not the relay) - run a search on rennlist in the 993 forum - there's alot of dicussions on installing Traffic Pro nav and how they accessed the speed and reverse wires..

I will hopefully be tackling this too in the nexted couple of weeks - I have a TP II (Ford version) that has been converted to amber back lighting that I need to get installed along with a nea amp Sub and speakers all round...

Where are you going to mount your Nav antenna?

I am probably going to mount it on top of the dash. The othe option would be to mount it in the trunk where the old cellular antenna use to be. On my NSX, I have it mounted on the dash and it works fairly well.

Do really need to hook up the speed sensor for the nav to work as it gets the position from the sky and calculates it's own speed. Or is this just for the auto volume adjuster?

It depends on the unit. With the pioneer, it will work just fine without it. It will just allow you to get a more accurate positioning when you lose the signal from the satellite (like going through a tunnel).

interesting - my pioneers both have accelerometers in it so i don't need connection to the car - kind of cool - i can measure cornering g loads, slopes, and everything

I'm trying to remember the last time I knew where I was when I went into a tunnel but didn't know where I was once I got into the tunnel.

Yeah me too... It's been working just fine on my other car without it. I decided just to leave it alone and it's working just fine. I will post pictures of the install for those who may want to consider putting one in.

Hey Ron are you still running without the speed pulse? I'm hooking up my Traffic Pro and thats the only thing I haven't found to tap into...just curious if you had located a wire and/or how it was working without the speed hooked up.

Hey Sam,

I have been running without it. It works just fine. I dont have it wired on my NSX either and I have never had any propblems without it. The function of the speed pulse sensor wire is to give the nav system a more accurate reading when the signal is lost from the satellite (like in a long tunnel). Other than that, you wont need it.
