You mentioned that the car was running fine the last time you drove it before the no start problem started. That's strange - I wonder when the timing belt broke? Maybe mice chewed through it while it was sitting idle <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Great lessoned learned! A good point to remember is how dog gone fast that engine cranks when the cam is no longer a load.

Ouch! That's very true. In general, the valves don't stand much of a chance as a result. Here's hoping Lord Galva lucked out. It's just strange that he says the car was running fine, and then he found it to have a broken belt the next time he tried starting it. It sounds like the belt snapped the instant he shut it down. Either that, or I'm going with my mice theory...

So yeah, frankly I am very happy this happened in my driveway and not on the road! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Leakdown showed leakage for cyc 1 so they didn't do the rest.

And I told them I want it outta there.

Got it back home and have done a lot of work to it so far (pain permitting)

Just need to remove the intake/exhaust manifolds and out she goes.

Right now I am just waiting for the flywheel lock I ordered to come in so I can set the crank to TDC.

The work the mech did moved the cam off TDC about 10 degree's.

You know what? I just realized I will be removing the head so setting it to TDC actually won't help.

I'll need it to put it back together, but not for disassembly. (that'll save a headache)



I was also able to speak with RSBarn today and wow they were helpful.

They have a head exchange program so I can get my car back on the road quicker!

What they do is ship you a new head and you send yours back.

Not only does that cut out the local machineshop who's probably never seen a Porsche head before, but it will give me more piece of mind that it was done right the first time.

In addition to the new head, I am replacing everything rubber in there as well.

Once I'm all done it should be like a new engine.
