Sound clips from the other day.

Flash,

Your car sounds bad assss!

That may be enough to encourage me to keep mine and finish it off.

I already have the flywheel and the new clutch is out shortly.

Just need the header.

Oh,

Since it was not posted here. Here it is:

Gah! I wish they had the mic a bit further back from the cars, the sound really clips

But man, RS barn exhaust sounds f'n MEAN!!

With the white car, is that exhaust only and stock headers? Versus the black car's full on exhaust? Well, I'd take any of them

Yes, totally! Makes me want to go and get that exhaust now. Can't wait to hear what Flash came up with in his recordings (if he did any).

BTW, nice weather you guys have down there. Sure beats this constant rain here in the great white north. One day I swear I'll make the trip down there and join in those fun runs

patrick - thanks - it's even better sounding in person - much lower note than what you hear there - very angry when you get on it too - not sure i'm done yet, but it is more fun to drive

i did not do any recordings - it was galva's event, and i did not want to step on it

i also wish trevor had used a better mic, a device with more headroom, and was at a better distance - camcorder is not the way to go

i also wish i had the chance to warm it up - the header is still a touch raspy when it's cold

but, that is also why i don't have good recordings yet - i'm willing to bet that everybody played them back on their computer speakers too, and did not bother to burn a cd and take it down to their home stereo - that means they likely got NONE of the bottom end of the sound, and likely also had distortion

better than nothing i suppose, but i swear i will get around to real recordings this spring

I actually don't even have speakers hooked up to my PC, its high quality headphones all the way. I'm talking about full ear DJ cans. But Youtube doesn't exactly have the best sound either being flash based; I'm sure its 11Khz 16bit mono at best. It would be nice if someone made a stand alone file available. Part of the reason why all my files sit on my server and not an internet video site

Speaking of which, I have a flyby recorded myself, but will redo it one of these weekends when its sunny and dry. I'll bring along my Edirol as well as the camcorder, that way I can get some nice 24bit files going, and splice the two together if need be. Available as non Youtube files only

BTW Flash, I'd be interested in picking your brain about this sound stuff, being a bit of audio person myself. Being a young wiper snapper I doubt I have as much experience

Great post...sound is OK for the built-in mic on the camera. All camcorders have built-in AGC and limiters and automatically set the recording levels so the average person can shoot a video and not have to worry about proper levels and such.

Guys, I'm really sorry I dropped the ball on this awhile back. I had all the recording gear ready, my stock setup, Cosimo's B&B, and Mark's RSBarn, but the event didn't lend itself to setting up the recording stuff. I'd still be up for doing the recording...I do have more time now on the weekends, so maybe when the weather breaks here on the east cost, I'll see if I can't get Mark and Ron to come by my place and get some decent audio.

You must be the one who rated the video a 1.

I accidentally left my external mic at home and had to use the internal camcorder mic. I also forgot to adjust mic volume for the standard mic since I always record w/ the external. I haven't seen anyone else post a 968 exhaust sound comparison before but I can take the video down if that would make you feel better...

lol! Nah, I haven't actually rated the video, and I do like it, honest (I have it in my favorites)! I just wish the sound was better since this is the first time I get to hear the RS Barn exhaust, that's all

Smokie, you can swing by my place on the way and we can caravan over. Darryl, I should make you come out my way since we have 2 968s with different setups in the garage and I can't drive them both. I seriously doubt the wife wants to drive out for an exhaust fest .... On second thought, I may have to send her away if we do it at my place LOL

Come on Mark...you mean your Wife doesn’t like the awesome sound of your cars and exhaust permeating the house for you to enjoy for weeks...

Enjoy!

Oh no, she requested the cat back for the sound and loves it, the M030 sway upgrade and short shift kit. She loves driving the car but isn't really in to car talk.

OK, showing momentum now...let's pick a day. I don't mind at all to take the show on the road, so let's check schedules and narrow down what's best for everyone who want's to play. Smokie, what are you running? Mark, what are the diff's between your two? I know one is full RSBarn...

Maybe we can have the wives do a shopping thing or something. We'll all be stoned when they get back anyways.
