Hey Jon, Thanks for the DIY guide. I have a couple of questions for you though. First, after I remove the plastic cover and the first nut off of the wiper shaft do I have to remove the wiper arm? If so, how is that done? Also, if I don't remove the wiper arm I assume that I need to use some narrow pliers or open-ended wrenches to remove it (I say this because my open ended wrenches were too wide to fit between the wiper arm and the glass.) Thanks for you help.

After you remove the first nut, the wiper blade should slide off. It might come off a little hard because it is toothed and the pressure of the wiper blade spring tends to put a torque on the shaft. Just give it a good wiggle. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Well, Its been over a year but I finally got around to repairing my rear wiper. Here are a couple of things of note that I would add for anyone else attempting this repair. The wiper shaft that is mentioned is held in by a small spring clip. Be careful when prying it loose as these tend to fly off. Underneath that is a small metal washer and an o-ring.Be careful when removing the shaft as that o-ring is easy to damage. Also, the small holes next to the pop rivets on mine were untapped. I used a 6-32 tap and 3/8" screws to complete the job. If the screws seem too long consider adding a small lock washer between the screw and the top piece.

Great write up, mine took a crap last week. So I started searching for a motor until I found this thread. Sure enough the shaft was pushed out stopping the wiper midway. Instead of using epoxy, I went with some Loctite bearing race adhesive since the gear tolerance is sort of a tight fit. I'll pick up some 3mm screws tomorrow and slap her back together and see how it works. BTW my 16 year old is trying to convince me to leave the rear wiper and assembly off. He says we're saving weight and it'll bring are autox times down <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Mine just took a dump too. I was glad to see this discussion before I started looking for a new motor as well. Where did you get the Loctite bearing race adhesive from? Thanks for the info.

Well, I repaired mine today. It went well and is working again. I ended up having to drill the rivets out. I couldn't seem to be able to get a hold of the rivets with pliers or vice grips. It worked great though. Thanks for the great instructions and info on the post. I would not have tried it with out this information.

I too had to drill out the rivets then tapped the holes next to them. It's been a few weeks since the repair and it's still working well.
