Saratoga Top
#1

I'm contemplating getting a Saratoga top. Does anyone have pictures of one on a 968?

Fox- there were multiple versions. Try to find the most recent version you can... they improved the design over time. I also think there might have been an early version that only worked with manual sunroofs on the 924/944. If you find one in good to excellent condition, be prepared to pay for it. They are rare.

Don H (RedBaron) has one on his low mile red coupe I believe...

Last I heard they weren't making or selling them anymore. Once in awhile one will come up on ebay, typically near the original retail price.

I sold one a few weeks ago for the manual top.

It was in near mint condition.

I found it on my local craigslist for $300 and sold it on ebay for $540.

The market on the power version went thru the roof beginning of this year, they were near $1200- $1400.

Now if you can find one, I would not pay more than $600 and change.

Dont forget to factor in shipping. Make sure the seller is competent at packing.

I packed mine very well and it cost $45 to ship it from the east coast to Oklahoma.

IMHO< save your money.... Most have bad seals which are NLA. Plus you have allot of extra UV rays hitting your interior, and in the summer lots of extra heat.

Look on pelican, that where they pop up the most.

Don-Red Baron has the top and it looks fantastic. I think he got it at the Hershey shop meet in Hershey Pa. I don't know if it was a new or old one or what he paid.

Time to revisit this. Over the years I have thought from time to time that I would like to have one of these old Saratoga tops. Obviously they're getting expensive and scarce.

So here's the question: Does anyone know anyone who makes glass tops? What would it take to get a similar product manufactured? Heck, even a nice chunk of race glass Lexan thick enough to stand alone with hinges just might be nice. Any ideas?

Yep, I bought my Saratoga top at the Swap Meet (did not see any during today's Swap Meet) about 7 years ago and paid $500 in the box. Yes, in blasting hot weather, you will have to crank up the air conditioner but it really gives the car a targa look.

As mentioned, look for the third (final) version which does not have any knobs on top.

Last time I checked, Saratoga Top would need an advance order of 1000 sunroofs in order to start up the line plus the issue of permission from Porsche AG is a factor.

They are out there, just have to keep looking.

I got rid of the one I had, and put a factory roof panel in. The thing was noisy and I really didn't want to take it to the track. The seals on them are problematic too. Cool looking, but not worth it IMO. I did like the airy feeling when it was in the car, but that was pretty much the extent of what I liked...

I like the Targa appearance but do not recommend the sunroof for extremely hot temperatures. Also, make sure you get the last version, which is shown in the attached photos. I have not had any problems with wind noise or rattles. Good luck with your decision.

Here are 2 additional photos of my Saratoga Top. There are 2 rare Saratoga Top storage bags for sale on Ebay right now but no tops at this time.

A Saratoga top has come up for sale, however it's for a manual sunroof.

Does anyone know if it is feasible to modify the panel to fit the electric lifters?

I imagine it would involve changing the fittings at the rear.

Yeah, just get a new one. I think the price jumped after the first 100 to 499.00 but that's still a very good price considering the eBay price of >1000.00 2 years ago.
