I know almost nothing about Tips, but could this be a result of the dreaded DME relay failure?

My tip has done that twice in just over a year. It did it when I started it up. It has never done it when driving. Tapplng the throttle a bit didn't help at all and it stalled. I thought the car might fall apart in the two seconds that it did it. It was also very loud and sounded like it was not coming from the engine. Works perfectly otherwise. I just assumed that it was cold and didn't have enough fuel to run correctly. Now I am curious.

Me too!.
I have tried to reproduce it.
I disconnected the dme relay. Made a jumper to let the pump run and the idle stabilezer to work properly.
Start the car and disconnected the fuelpump.
The car stalls and when I restarted the car the same error occurs.
After that I switched on the pump again and fired it up again.
No problem.
Tried the first step again. and the error occurs.
So it must be definatly something with the dme relay. Also the warning light from the tip goes on!.
after the restart light went out and stays out.
But when the light is on, the tip shifts like a lorry!.
it clunks trough the gears if it is missing the correct tacho information.
Fitted the dme properly and no faults are registrated and the car fires up fine and runs smoothly as well.
Maybe we have to learn to live with it.

I like everyone don't know alot of detail on the tip (trying to learn), but one more possable is the TCU feaking out and attempting 2 gears at once (seen it on other cars). My best advice at this time would be to unplug the TCU for an hour or so (that should totaly reset the computer memory). I think it's worth a try, no?

Daly, Does the idle stabilisor works correctly? Because if the car runs in neutral about 900 rpm, if you shift into drive it will stall if the stabilizer will not work. What will happen when you swith the AC on? will it rumble also or is the the revounter about a 1000 rpm??? If it is at 1000 rpm will it still stall when you shift into drive??
The idle stabilizor gets his voltage from the DME relay.
The TCM module sounds like a possibility. Resetting the TCU I am not sure about, but if someone wants to tell me where it is and what to do I will give it a try.
I was reffering to the tranny computer, pulling the plug for awhile should erase the memory. Something to try anyway.

I have never had to do it to my 968 but according to my docs the computer should be in the "Right Rear Fender" and if the docs are right it should only have one plug.
Regarding disconnecting the TCM, I'm confused as to 1. what this is supposed to do, and if it did something, 2. why not just disconnect the battery?
Opposite is correct; the reason I suggested un-plugging the Trans computer only is so the engine computer doesn't lose it's memory, as well as the radio and such (also that will not anger the air bag light gods )
