RS Barn Products
#1

The RS Barn is now online with lots of 968 goodies. As a 951-968 owner for many years, I've now put together a website with pretty much all the performance and handling products available for these models. I've also spent considerable time in development of the 968 engine. 968 owners have been left out in the cold for many years without any real way to increase the potential of the car. Thus the RS treatment.

My mission started last year when I purchased a 968TS that was converted to RS spec and raced in the ADAC GT Cup. The car was sold to a private buyer in Harrisburg , Pa. He yanked the RS motor and put it in another car. My car was left gutted for several years until the car was obtained by new owners of the VW dealership the buyer owned. I purchased the car along with the original 968TS motor installed in the car. Start of big project. Anyway, as I was trying to locate all the OE and aftermarket parts for this project I realized there was a need for a vendor who could sell performance, suspension and maintence items for the 968 series.

RS Barn.com is also in the development stages. I will be filling in all the open areas in the next couple of weeks. I encourage any photos of cool 968 cars and mods for my pictures area. I am also waiting on the performance data from Dyno testing of products at Cyntex. I will post soon.

Most interesting - particularly rejuvenated cams, performance cams, exhaust. Can you give any specific indication of performance gains from the combination of performance cams and exhaust?

First let me set the baseline. Getting HP and Torque from a 968 is tough. It's a very well designed top end. All testing was on a Mustang dyno. They are used by the serious performance gurus. For example we tested a cold air intake with a gain of 3hp and 2.5 ft/lbs of torque. The manufactures claimed 9hp on a Dynojet.

We also tested three other performance chips with a max gain of 2HP and a loss of 2.5 ft/lbs of torque. All were nearly identical and all the hp was gained at a higher rpm. and torque losses were between 3500/5800 rpm. I will post results soon. I have dyno charts and graphs. I am waiting for data. I think losses and gains on our upgrades will be more dramatic than graphs show. For example: Cold air intake makes 3 hp and 2.5 ft/lbs torque gain at peak. I believe torque gain is about 5ft/lbs at 2500-3500.

We have found a combination of performance upgrades give the best overall gain.

A cold air with a header/exhaust and our chip give 11+ hp and 5ft/lbs torque over the entire rpm range. Again the data may reveale a 10+ ft/lb torque gain from 2400 to 3500 rpm.

Performance cams: We expect another 10 +HP/TQ from cams. We didn't get there. yet . We are trying some other header combos. Testing is Saturday.

Will update.

I've been a little quiet lately due to several projects.

First, have you checked out the specials on RSBARN.com

I am not going to do group buys but have specials every month. They will be the equivalent to GB's but without the hassle.

Second, I got the Turbo RS back from Precision who finalized their work. Car runs but needs lots to get ready for track. Next Monday is exhaust, Tuesday-Wednesday is dyno tuning at Cyntex. Leaves me balance of this week and next to finish fittment of larger radiator, oiler cooler, ductwork, 935 adjustable boost setup and a million more things. My goal is to be at Pocono next Friday. We'll see!!!

What thats done is put a delay on NA stuff. After next week I will be finalizing the header/exhaust set up. What I have now is more of a racing fittment. I will be offering the header with an adapter to the stock cat back system. less money and for those who already have an aftermarket cat back like B&B there will be a lower price. To be honest, the stock system is quite efficient just too quiet.

I will have everything ready for 968 Celebration

Thanks for asking.

Pete, when you re-do cylinder heads as described on your website, do you renew the Variocam guides and chain as part of the process? Do the prices include a gasket kit for re-assembly?

Tom,

The cylinder head work stands alone. There are many shops and machinists that can refurbish a 968 head. What counts is a professional who knows every nuance of the 16 valve heads. Michael Mount is that guy. He has been massaging these heads for 10 + years. What I offer is a cylinder head ready to go with no down time. You can odder your head and have it delivered when you need

it. Your core would need to come back for credit.

I offer cam resprocketing and have the chain as part of that package. There are

two sets of guides and

I have not Offered them as package yet. Some cars have the 944# guides top and bottom. Some have the 944 guides on top and the 928 guides on bottom. There is a size and price difference. We're trying to work this out

Thanks for the inquiry.
