RS Barn Custom Software
#21

Looking forward to incrementally catching up with you - not to the 285 mark maybe but it will be fun, starting at 236 and measuring each climb with the butt-o-meter. . . airbox. . . RSB chip. . . headers & exhaust. . . (that will probably be it for me).

I think the airbox and K&N will be happening within a coupla months. Nice to have it all ready for the June tracking event in Denver.

Do you think your tool would show 236 on mine? Car seems to run well according to the buttometer, but I really need more headroom - if I don't watch the tach I hit fuel cutoff every time.
what really has me excited is what the head, cams and such would be like with a low boost supercharger - it is concievable to have 350hp on very little boost - that means no intercooler and no headaches - i've already got a line on a company that could set up a unit that would let me keep the a/c, be smog legal, and less than 5 grand complete with everything, and ready for a weekend bolt on job - this all seems to make it that much easier

ah, but that's another day

[post="16880"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
you can count me in for that. any bolt-on, low maintenance, headache-free supercharger that does not mess with my A/C ( as I said before, I like my cabin to grow icicles if at all possible ) and passes smog of course is easily worth $ 5k in my book.

I think it is important to note, that none of this equipment actually has a California EO number, and that if the smog tech really wanted to get sticky about it, he could fail the visual.

Probably not the chip, heads or cams, because nobody busts open a computer box or valve cover to look, but a bright and shiny header will certainly attract attention. Actual testing of a full boat RS Barn system on an IM 240 test would need to be proven to pass the sniffer test before CA residents break open their piggy bank.

Same with the supercharger. It needs to be certified as a vehicle specific system.

I guess I should be happy I'm in Maryland where the emissions test is every two years. Last time I took the Porsche and the S2000 they didn't even test them they just gave me a pass. I think they were scared of the Porsche and the S2000 they didn't know where to find the OBDII connector. It supposed to be a rolling test but they didn't even do the sniffer test.

i've been poking around a bit on this, and so far, i've found nothing illegal about the header - the only smog requirement is that a cat be present (no, fluffy in the back seat won't do) - there is no number on cats that i've been able to find either, california or otherwise - so, there is really nothing for them to inspect, check, or fail

i guess some guy could be a jerk, but in the end, you'd win the fight

the supercharger will be complete with C.A.R.B. cert - that is what is taking so long - the unit already has one, but it needs the extension to the car - when and if i get to that point, i'll talk more about where that is in the process - right now, my plate is just too full to work on it

and frankly, the car is so fast now, i need to increase my rear spring rate to compensate - any more power and it would be a lot worse

Just ordered the level one chip from Pete.

I'll post my butt-o-meter analysis when I get the chip installed.

Very cool. If I remember correctly, before the RS Barn exhaust, you had gotten your car down to about 2900 lbs, so with the additional weight reduction from the exhaust system, you're knocking on the door of 10 lbs/hp. Amazing, considering, as you said, not that long ago people were claiming it was impossible to get additional power out of this engine without forced induction. Congrats!

I'm sorry if i missed it, but is there a link to actual dyno charts? Pricing?

Thanks

pricing for all 3 versions is on page 1 of this thread right at the top - he also offers an unprecidented trade in policy for the software in the event you upgrade later

dyno charts are not going to be posted at this time - pete said he is more than happy to discuss anything about the software with any prospective buyers, and i highly recommend contacting him - he is very helpful - i'm sure he doesn't want to get into the kinds of things i've been stuck in - due to the confusion too many people have had, either as a result of not knowing how dynos work and what charts are really saying, or interjection of those who just have to be contrary (and most of them are on another site), i agree with his decision - it's best to ahndle this directly - as expected, the frackus has already started over on another site

i can readily attest to the results of the stage 2 software - i am very happy with it - i tried the others - this is really better - anybody who does a side to side comparison, will feel the same way

Are the rev limits changed in the RS barn chip?

I believe it is at 7200 which gives you 4-500 rpm after peak power.

Very cool! Congrats Pete... I was in Vegas at a Trade show all week so I did not have time to read the threads. This is quite an accomplishment for an N/A Car!
yeah - i was pretty happy myself - i could feel that each step of the way was better, but until i did that last set of runs, i didn't know how much - i've always said that 275 was within reach, and thought 280-285 was too - turns out it looks like i was right

i don't know what all the skepticism was about 2 years ago when i first got into this car, and the "experts" on another board were saying that "porsche knew what they were doing" and "they got all there is out of the motor" - clearly they didn't get it all

now i'm already thinking about the head and cams - looks like 300 is doable in street trim for a couple grand more

what really has me excited is what the head, cams and such would be like with a low boost supercharger - it is concievable to have 350hp on very little boost - that means no intercooler and no headaches - i've already got a line on a company that could set up a unit that would let me keep the a/c, be smog legal, and less than 5 grand complete with everything, and ready for a weekend bolt on job - this all seems to make it that much easier

lol - yeah - it only seems like an eternity

i am actually finally thinking i might be done with the N/A street trim version by august in time for parade (depending on pete and the new head and cams of course)

just a few more development projects to do, and a couple of little things on this end

RS Barn has just released Custom Performance Software

RS Barn is proud to introduce the Best custom Software for your 968

Extensive Dyno testing and tuning offers the most HP and Torque available on the market today.

RS Barn uses a Eddy Current load Dyno to simulate road conditions and only measures increases in power- not acceleration like most other Dynos.

Stage 1, Chip is for stock cars with Airbox mods or external air filter. Best HP and TQ in the business, I tested all the rest $139.00

Stage 2. Softwareware is for 968's with Airbox mods and RS Barn Header with stock cat back or RS Barn cat back. Wow!!! Lots of HP and gobs of TQ $179.00

Stage 3. Designed for RS Barn Performance Cams, Header, Airbox Mods. Really incredible power and torque. Equivilent to 993 non vario motor $179.00

[post="16732"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Pete,

stock performance is 236@6,200, 225 ft.lbs.@4,100

What are the numbers with a stage 1 chip with airbox mod?

Pete,

Just installed the new chip and went for a drive.

Really nice improvement.

Increased power and torque.

Seens to have a wider max power band.

Less downshifting.

And I LOVE the increased max rev.

She pulls and sounds awesome at the top.

At new redline in second gear with the top down on a sunny day in Seattle...hard to describe, but I still have the smile on my face.

Nice work!

I can imagine that is very hard to describe Kind of like describing your encounter with Bigfoot - Everyone know it exists, but few have documented it with photographs

hey Silvy968, a few questions for you

- how is the low-end torque?

- have you done the airbox mod?

- did you have a previous aftermarket chip or stock?

thanks - and have fun with your additional chutzpah!
