rotor orientation- help!!!
#1

i'm an idiot! i removed my old rotor from my distributor without marking which way it was pointing. now i have a new one that i need to put in but i don't know which way to orient it.

please tell me that there's a simple solution for this.

i have a feeling that my timing would be way off if i put it in the wrong way, right?

Even though the bolt pattern looks symmetrical, it is not. It will only line up one way.

Your spark would be off, so it would not run, but would not destroy itself as it would if the cam and crank are mistimed.

Coincidentally, I removed my rotor yesterday, assuming that there would be a positioning lug or something to ensure placement in the correct orientation. I saw nothing, but did remember which way it was facing. However, I figured there had to be something (assymetrical hole pattern certainly works) to prevent such a mistake.

just put the new one in at lunch. tried all different directions just for fun. dave is definitely right (as always!). only fit one way.

so now my hesistation issues are resolved. new spark plugs, rotor, cap, wires, coil, dme relay, several other relays that were fried.

can't believe how bad the old cap and rotor looked. after seeing the new ones, i'm sure glad i replaced them.

car runs better than the day i bought it.

i think it's still clearing out some junk from when it was misfiring. i had to limp home last week with a fouled spark plug and cracked dist cap.
