Roll Bar / Harness Bar / No Bar
#1

So, I bought a nice Sparco seat and harness from Bob Blackwell (thank you, Bob!) for the coupe. Bob didn't use a bar of any type and had good success with this seat and harness, but I'm wondering what folks' opinions are of going without a bar versus putting a harness bar in, versus a roll bar.

I do about 4 autocrosses and about the same number of DEs a year, and street the car.

If you suggest a harness bar or roll bar, which type do you use? Do you like/recommend it? Easy to put in and take out?

Thanks for any info!

definitely use harnesses and a harness bar as a minimum - you will quickly learn to enjoy the very planted feeling of those harnesses

there is a brey krause bar for sale on rennlist right now for hardtops - i don't know of any for cabs at all

i would only do a roll bar in a hardtop if you were campaining that car a lot, or it was a dedicated track car - in a cab, i would not hesitate for a second

Chris, I do not think you need to install anything if the seats and harness work well together as is.

If you do want to add something I believe these are a favorite of many and bolt in easily

I have to second the motion for the RedLiner bolt-in bar shown above. I ran this in my 944 for almost 5 years, used it in the 968 for about a year, have since taken a slide down the slippery slope of Club Racing and installed a full cage.

I installed and removed the bar above in between events, true bolt in "you'd never know it was there" set-up. I found it to be a good "in-betweener" configuration that bridges the gap between harness-bar-only and full-roll-bar installs.

I stored it by hanging a couple of bike hooks in the garage ceiling. Biggest challenge is getting it into the car (goes in through either door), but you CAN do it as a one-man operation, although it's much easier with two.

Never took me more than about 30 minutes to install it, install all the harnesses, mount the extinguisher, empty the car of loose items, and be ready to drive to your favorite venue.
