Roll Bar and Harness Bar
#1

I am in the process of installing an Autopower roll bar in my 968 Coupe. With the seats I have chosen, the angle of harnesses would be pretty steep down to the roll bar cross bars. Rather than pull out the roll bar, then get a higher roll bar cross bar welded in, then repaint the bar, does anyone know if any of the currently available harness bars can simply bolt in, in addition to the roll bar, so I can use the harness bar to loop the harnesses over, then down to the roll bar cross bar for attachment, to get better harness angles.

I do not have a rollbar mounted in my 968, but with the Weltmeister harness brace installed, it looks as if a roll bar would fit without interference. Maybe you can find out from either Autopower, Weltmeister, or Brey-Krause. They may have experience with mounting both in the same car. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Thanks Bob. I'll have to call them. Does your Weltmeister bar go between the B pillars, or are their plates moving it rearward? Also, do you the 1.5" version? I have found exactly zero photos of the Weltmeister Harness Bar for 944/968. All the photos are of the 911 bar, that has plates that move the bar to the rear (and positions the bar similar to the BK bar.) I need a bar that pretty much goes straight across the B pillar as the roll bar is not much behind the B pillar and looks like it shall not allow a harness bar to be positioned much rearward of the B pillar mounts. The Stable Energy bar looks better in this regard, goes relatively straight across, but is only 1" stock - I had preferred something a little heftier.

The Weltmeister bar is 1 and 1/2 inches in diameter and mounts between the "C" pillar (last one before the rear hatch). there are plates which go back about four inches and down about one and one-half inches. If you can't find a picture on the Weltmeister site I can try and email one to you. Unable to post pictures to this site. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Thanks Bob, that description helped. I think I need a bar for the B pillar, and without the plates that direct the bar to the rear...I'd like to attach my shoulder harnesses to the roll bar crossbar and that requires a guide bar directly behind the seats and just in front of the roll bar. Going to call about the Stable Energies bar.

Ordered a harness bar from Stable Energies (1" Chro Moly.) Have read the debates on this issue, etc. and feel comfortable with its design, material and strength for my use in DE as a guide bar to direct belts down to the roll bar cross bar.

There is another lesser known solution I found, from David at Rennenmetal. See photos.
