I have been trying to remove my rear shocks with no success (I don't own an inpact gun). Big hammer and a swing bar but those lower bolts won't budge. Are they a reverse thread perhaps?

nope. just really tight. probably have to use an impact gun.

If you can get the car high enough off the ground to attach a tube to your breaker bar to lengthen it, you should be able to generate enough torque to bust it loose. Make sure you're using a good quality, six-point socket. Also, try some penetrating oil. Suspension work is no fun - everything is heavy, tight, stubborn, and just a real pain.

I've always used a torque multiplier to get those off... My impact wrench wont usually do it, and one side the angle is all wrong.



Concur with Cloud... use a bar on your breaker bar and a good impact socket.

Had the same problem - those suckers were super-gorilla-tight. Not sure why - it's just a shock mount, it's not like it takes the entire weight of the car or something!

Tks guys. It's up on jack stands and there isn't much room underneath for a long bar. I fear if I pull any harder I will pull the car of the stands. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> I am always very nervous under there. Might have to wait until I get near my friends lift in the spring then.

When I use the bar, I am actually out from underneath the car. My torque multiplier (read jack handle) is about 4 ft long getting me out from under the vehicle.



It's also helpful to have a second jack for setting the height of the swing arm during reassembly. Makes it easy to line up the bolt.

I have had them soaking with pen oil for the last few days. I borrowed a bigger swing bar from my mechanic friend so we'll give 'er another try. Not a lot of room to swing under there so I don't have my hopes up.
