Rhude rant #3
#1

I’m noticing this trend in my area more and more. Yesterday this happen not once, not twice but 3 times.

1. Driving in to work, I take the on ramp for 295 S. As I accelerate to about 65mph I notice that I’m not outpacing the car in the slow lane. I give it more so as to cut ahead of them but there they are, still at my rear quarter. As I am ahead, I stay on the gas, by now I’m running out of road as the merge lane is fading out. I’m doing 82mph w/ my blinker on and the mutha *#^ ! car is still there. I come off the throttle and they zoom pass. I then fall behind them only to notice there brake lights immediately lighting up…

2. Still on 295, but looking to get over in the fast lane now. I’m watching my mirror for a break in traffic and I see one. About 3 car lengths between the next passing cars in my side mirror. As the 1st car approaches I hit the blinker (MISTAKE #1). Now he’s only going about 5-8 mph faster so he’s passing me slowly. By the time he’s clear the trailing car has closed the gap by a little more then one car length and is closing in quickly, I’ve already accelerated to the speed of the passing car and simply cut the driver off. I hear the BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR of the horn but I didn’t care, Im in the land cruiser, weight wins. The frustrated driver kept jumping over to blow pass me but hey, It’s the slow lane. The driver simply ended up right back behind me time and time again which gave me some satisfaction.

3. This was on my way home. Im in the fast lane and content. There’s another car behind me and were both cooking along passing others at about 75MPH. I assume he is now closing in on his exit as his blinker comes on and I can see the opening (again about 3 car lengths) that he is trying to slip through as he has to cross 3 lanes within a .5 mile. I take note as he slows down and starts to slip in, when low and behold the car trailing starts to accelerate and completely closes the gap. The driver then eases off the gas and allows the gap to reopen but is traveling alongside the guy with his blinker on. I can get over but he cant. He slows down more and more until finally, he is now like 5 lengths back there before he could cut across and make his exit.

And guess what? All 3 drivers had something in common. Why cant some people simply share the road.

this works both ways - you could merely have slowed down for a minute and let the nuts go by you and get away from you - the result would likely have been a whopping 20 seconds out of your life, but the stress reduction would extend that life by a lot more

wow - how old do i sound now?

Didnt want to sound sexist but they were all woman.

"I could have Slowed down"

I see your logic but the greater wrong is the knuckle heads that speed up just to.. just to be jerks! Blinker on, matching speed and merging. Whats the crime. When I see a blinker and Im in the left lane I maintain speed. When I see a blinker from a car joining the freeway I come off the throttle. It's called Common Courtesy. I gain nothing by holding them over or behind me.

i know, but two wrongs don't make a right - this one is something i have come to learn as i get older

there is a law out here that requires that you pull to the right and allow a driver to pass, regardless of what speed you are doing - if they are going faster, you are supposed to pull over and let them do it

merging onto a freeway is supposed to require matching speed and MERGING - that means not going slower and not going faster

that being said, except on a two lane road, we don't travel in the right lane here - that is for merging on and off the freeway, and for trucks only - it is not intended for travel - the centermost lanes are for that - the only place we have two lane roads are rural areas, and merging is not generally an issue - usually freeways are at least 3 lanes each side, and sometimes 5 or 6

the more i drive, the worse other drivers seem to get

my worst nightmare is a camry - they invariably are driven by people who are afraid of going over 65 - at least the prius is usually in the commuter lane (although never driving as fast as they should be)

remember this - it applies to the commuter lanes, the fast lane, merging, and just about anywhere:

"just because you can, doesn't mean you should"

Does that mean I should cancel my order for this?

I'm thinking it will solve all of my merging issues.

295 New Jersey?? love that highway! Better that the stop -go-stop -go of Parkway.

Rhudeboy, my Jersey driving philosophy is

"Agressive defensive driving" ...planning ahead for the idiots and taking advantage of every opportunity, every open space, passing everyone I can. Planning for every chess move outcome for all the cars around me in two and sometimes three dimensions.

BUT, not to the point of being a jerk or being noticed.

Let A-holes be A-holes and find a way around them...and don't let it get to you....

PS: get rid of the tracer rounds and get armor piercing...

Not NJ but the BW pky 295.

Rad. You are so on point with everything you said. Thats kinda my driving style as well except the not letting others get to me. Every now and then I just want justice.

So what do you think about rockets. I figure I can get 3 mounted on top the cruiser. Might get a bit pricey but bullets will simply immobilize the car, a good rocket could blow it out of my way.

BW = Baltimore Washington pky

I agree with your method, but not your armory...photon torpedoes would allow you to drive through the ashes that were previously the offender's vehicle.

Photon torpedoes would be an overkill! Yes, they will vaporize the A-hole but also possibly damage the road surface. Phasers would be less obtrusive on the environment.

funny comments...from everyone dammit, I have nothing comedic to add ( unusual for me, no ? )

picking up on the Prius comment though ; I feel the same about hybrid cars drivers out there - not all, but most are smug, I'm helping the planet, so I'm holier than thou a**holes ( male or female ) and thus I can drive as fast or as slow as I want with disregard to any common courtesy and ignore everyone else on the road, because I own it.

too bad I drive cars for which I care so much. i swear, one of these days I'm going to buy a $ 300 rusted out and dented Ford F450 just to troll the roads looking to make these people's day miserable for a change.. I don't mean just Prius drivers, I mean all of the "I own the road" dudes..

lol - when i was young and stupid i had a 66 dodge van with a hopped up 318 in it and had a 2" x 4" steel c-channel for a bumper for just that reason - i had no issue with using it to gently "nudge" somebody along

Now thats the Flash I wanna ride with. We all need a little mad max in us.

I cant narrow it down to a vehicle.A Maxima,a BMW and an SUV were the culprits of my rant. And I wasn't implying that all woman do it, it just happens to seem that way from what I've observed. I'm gonna start keeping a log.

To the point of proper lane use. It's habit for me to give the passing lane to driver behind me moving faster then me. Again, common courtesy. From what I've seen most dont understand the logic of passing on the left and they sure dont respect the blinker.

You must be speaking of the two Prius P#$%s that held us up on the 46 headed over from the Coast to Paso Robles. I'm guessing that I wasn't the only one who gave them the finger when we finally got around.

You can't be overly agressive about driving in the Bay Area, especially Oakland where half the peolpe drive around with guns in their cars.

1. Yes, especially them.
2. Right you are, I'll limit that to Berkeley where the most I'll risk is someone in a Prius throwing a free range ckicken organic egg at my car..

Been mine for a while now. If I am using 3 times the gas the least I can do is provide them with some of that lovely exhaust. I do love passing them. And there are enough of them now that it makes for some interesting driving on the way to work.

Personally, I believe that Prius (and all other hybrid) drivers should be encouraged as much as possible....................... The less fuel they use, the more there is for us
