As some of you know I no longer have a 968. I currently have a 2008 Cayenne GTS that I got a month ago and also a 2014 Cayenne Diesel that I use for work.
The diesel was bought new in Dec 2013. When I got it I also bought a factory extended warranty which, at the time, extended the warranty to an additional 2 years or 80K km after the original warranty expired.
In Sept 2015 the diesel-gate business erupted. Porsche, as a goodwill gesture, offered customers the extended warranty as described above at no additional cost. I mentioned to me dealer that I had already bought that and Porsche then offered me an additional 2 years or 40k km "extended' extended warranty.
At about 150k km I developed an engine seal leak that was repaired under the extended warranty. At 195k km I developed a second like that was repaired under the extended extended warranty. The bill for the second leak approached $20k.
The Porsche changed the extended warranty provisions to give credit for time rather than use. This resulted in my total warranty now being 4 years after expiration of the original new vehicle warranty, which expired due to use in May of 2015. SO I was covered bumper to bumper until May 2019.
Two weeks ago the bearings in the Cardan shaft failed after 332k km and my low coolant light came on as the vehicle was being driven into the garage for that repair; I also had a coolant leak at the oil cooler. Both of these are being repaired under warranty.
So hence the anti-rant. I often hear a lot of crap about Porsche ripping people off but I can tell you than I have had nothing but good experiences, not just in the 3 Cayennes I have owned, but also in the 2 968s as well.
