Merry Christmas from Bugtussle
#1

Well its the day after Christmas and I'm at work, cleaning my office, filing stuff and generally preparing for 2019.  Tunes are on and life is good.

I am not really all that active on Forums any more since I haven't a 968 but I do still check out all the new posts 3-4 times every day.  If I spent less time here and more time on my spinner bike in my office I would probably be better off!

I do miss the two 968s and probably should never have sold the blue cab pictured in my avatar.  It was fun to drive and I never saw myself coming the other way.

A fun year for the Cayenne diesel.  Got sideswiped in January and was out of commission for a month.  The repair was pretty crappy but with 375,000 km on the vehicle, which makes it relatively worthless, I'm not that worried. I needed a steering shaft and a driveshaft this year but the "special" Porsche unlimited bumper-to-bumper warranty that has been in place since Dec 24, 2013 and will expire in May, 2019 has been great.

This year I bought a 2008 Cayenne GTS that was rather cheap and in great condition and I do drive it around for fun, This time of year, though, we need show tires in our part of the world so I only drive it when the roads are clean.  I can tell you it's a real pig on fuel.

My Porsche driving summary this year shows about 97,000 km on the diesel and about 12,500 km on the GTS. Like the Beach Boys, I get around.

On a business note, I am still willing to part with my portion of ownership in this Forum. I bought it really just to help get past an issue at the time. It has been no work (thanks to Jay who seems to take care of everything) but with no car I can accomplish what I like to do - looking at new posts and occasionally offering a comment or two - by just being a member. The price is not high as I will be reasonable about that.

Wishing you all the best for the coming year from my little office here in Halifax - the pic shows it all.

To those of you who are placing Christmas lights/decorations in your yards, can you please avoid anything w/red or blue flashing lights together? When I come around the corner I think it's the police & I have a panic attack. I have to brake hard, toss my vodka, fasten my seat belt, drop my phone, turn down the radio, shove my gun and drugs under the seat, all while trying to put my clothes back on. It's just too much drama, even for Christmas. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Funny imagery, I'll wish you a Merry Christmas now just in case there's no internet in Alcatraz! Santé

another Merry Christmas (Festivus from those in the aluminum industry or those who feel strong and like to rant) extended from Bugtussle, Nova Scotia.

As has been my custom for the past number of years, I offer my "driving statistics" for those interested in how to wear out a vehicle quickly.

in 2019 (so far) I have driven my vehicles (I don't count my wife's truck) a total of  118,184 km as follows:
  • 2014 Cayenne Diesel (sold April) - 24,657 km
  • 2008 Cayenne GTS (sold June) - 12,946 km
  • 2018 Ford Focus 1.0L (purchased new 15 April) - 80,581 km.
My fuel costs in total have been $9738.

I will likely drive another 2000 km this year.

Anyone else even close?

I can’t image anyone, including commercial truck drivers, logging that many miles in a year .. heck, most people who fly frequently for business probably have a hard time keeping up with that number ..

Is Nova Scotia near anything? Lol !!!!! Is this fun driving? Going to work? How about some context here.

Kim, if I recall correctly, you make your living as an environmental consultant. When I was consulting I was averaging about 45K miles per year, a good bit of that in company vehicles. My big mileage accumulation was in airline miles, close to 100,000 a year, mostly back and forth to some very remote job locations. So I can easily imagine how you might put serious miles on a vehicle.

Ah, a comedian in our midst!

Chris is correct.  I drive all over Nova Scotia, from one end to the other. No airplanes for me. And i live 100 km from my office, where i go about 6.5 days/week. Plus the occasional trip to see the Rolling Stones, wherever they may be playing, also by car. Start it up.

I drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles four or five times a year ( approx. 800 mi round trip each ) and often it’s for business ; people ask me why I don’t fly there instead ( I can fly first class if I chose , the company will pay for it ..) and I keep telling them that I love driving cars, being in a car, even rental cars , not just the 968 or the Maserati , and there is no way, no how I’d ever elect to fly if driving is an option. Hell, if I could get an amphibious car mod, I’d drive to Europe on my vacations ! You go Kim, and as we just about turn over a new , wishes for year many many happy more miles ahead for you ! My resolution for 2020 is to drive more !
