you need a special glue for that. any glass shop should have it. some of the auto parts stores do too.

So I got the permatex. There is a quarter size, what appears to be some sort of plastic left on the window, that the mirror was attached to. The instructions tell me to adhere a button to this part of the window. There is a quarter size piece of metal that is in a slot attached to the end of the arm of the mirror. It looks like this is supposed to come out of the arm and get glued to the mirror. Then after drying you attach the mirror to this. I can not get this piece out although it looks like it should move. I'm I misunderstanding this or are you supposed to glue the entire mirror to the window all at once?

You need to scrap off the "stuff" on the windshield. HTere should be a cleaning agent to clean the glass. The quater size piece should come off and

glued to teh windshield. If not, the whole rear view mirror is too heavy for the glue to set....Luck

Yes that's what I thought. So to be clear, it's the entire piece with the quarter size button getting glued to the window? Any thoughts on how to get that piece off the mirror? It's not budging.

Illustration 805-00, part 9 in the PET if that helps.

Here's the part on Pelican Parts, according to the part number (477-845-043).

Thanks Tama. So this confirmed what I thought. I am unable to get that piece off of the end of the arm. Might be age, might be my own ineptness! Result the same. No dice. Any suggestions here short of purchasing a new mirror?

Perhaps a bit of glue got slopped into it and it's stuck. Can you apply a few drops of acetone to see if it frees up?

Oh you poor misbegotten soul. I don't need no stinking woody Allen to write this. My own ineptness provides all the fodder I need! Lol. That is where the talent lies.

No screw or anything else holding it in there , it is just a very tight fit .

For glue use loctite 319 , it's a glue and an activator for glass and metal , and follow the instruction's on the package .

Make sure both glass and metal are a 100% clean , otherwise you wil be doing it again .

used 2 other kind's off glue , only worked for a few week's/month's , now it has been on there for about 3 years .

and sorry no funny writing for me , it is difficult enough as it is , then again i don't see any off you write any dutch , that would be funny i guess

oh and mark the outside of the glass so you know the exact location where to put the activator/glue .

And use a sandpaper to make the glass a bit rough , it will work better that way , just be carefull not to scratch your glass outside the area you want to glue .

good luck
